Notsplit does not find folder (2GB problem)

I can confirm that NotSpilt6 and three previous versions all have problems as described by the problem submitter.  I am guessing that the problems can be one or more of the following.

1. A message size in the folder exceeds the Microsoft 32 bit filesize maximum.  This can occur quite easily if a multi-megabyte attachment occurs in a message.

2. A message contains the byte x'1A' dec(27)  which is the marker for separating messages in PMM files.  There should not be any such bytes in a message.  It seems likely that Microsoft is issuing these bytes as part of Cloud-based Outlook messages  and not converting these bytes to Base64 format. All messages are supposed to be 7-bit text/plain.

I am investigating detecting this condition and will create a new version of NotSplit to handle this.

P.S  I am on 64-bit Windows 10 , and cannot test on previous versions of Windows systems.

Hi,

(By the way it is great to see so much support for pmail)

I am currently running 4.60 under XP. I have mails from the last 20 years which I have unwittingly shifted to numerous folders (one for each year) and thus created a number of them which are beyond the 2GB limit where the index no longer works. I only realized when it was too late. I have tried the usual procedures described here by copying a number of files from a big folder to a new folder. However, in the new folder the indexing is apparently wrong and when I reindex a number of mails seem to vanish. The old one, however, cannot be compacted after deletion of the files because there is an indexing error. WHen I reindex the old mails reappear and I am again above 2 GB (and so on).

So here is my question. As a last resort I downloaded notsplit. I can start the program but it does not do anything as if it does not find the folder. There is not even an error message. It just says processed 0. I tried to enter just the filename or the name with the full path. I also tried to put notsplit into the directory where the folders are located. It simply does not work. I also tried with large and small folders, no difference. How do I get notsplit to work??? I should mention that my folders are not in the default directory. Does notsplit look in a special place???

Thanks for all support.

I've used it in the past putting notsplit executable and the .pmm file in the same directory.  Was always frustrated by the fact that the .cnm file were created in the root of %temp%.

Ok, I just tested notsplit6.exe every way I know how and can not get it to work.  Tested using two small .pmm files from an old mailbox on a Win7-64 OS.  DOS emulator required perhaps?  I no longer have one installed in which to test.

The reason for the use of the %temp location is that when the messages are extracted, they are created as CNM message files. They should not normally be allowed to merge with existing messages in the NewMail folder.

I will check out my Notsplit on my 64-bit Windows 10 system and let you know.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have just tried the same. It does not work. There is simply no action. The temp directory is by the way recognized by the program (tells me temp directory being used c:\temp which exists. I am using notsplit6. Is there an older version I could try and where can iI find it (if yes)? As mentioned I am running XP and have a 32 bit system.
