Replacing a HD with a SSD

I'm not a fan of Win10 either.  Much preferred Win7.  Give Win10 a chance though.  It' not terrible; it just takes getting used to and a lot of time researching how best to make it work like you think it should work rather than the way MS thinks we should want it to work.

I am replacing my Hard Drive on a Fujitsu N532 laptop with a Solid State Drive.   This  based on the recommendation of our local computer specialist, who is highly recommended for repairs, etc.   He has provided this machine and my desktop.

He intends to copy the  HD to the SSD, but leave me with the HD as removed without deleting anything.

In past threads the process of moving PMAIL from an old to a new machine has been discussed and sorted.   Although I note there have been comments about the number of rewrites that a SSD will take in a lifetime.

Is there any reason why moving my HD C:/ files to the replacement SSD C:/ should be problematical for PMAIL, i.e. it will be copying folder C:/PMAIL in its entirety from one drive to the other, plus all the other folders on C:?

A copy of Pegasus Mail will work  The steps will be to do the copy then run the installer which will make the necessary registry entries for full functionality (details below).

As for all of the other folders, nope.  Applications will need to be reinstalled.  Data (documents, photos, music, videos) can be copied.  Some application data, like browser profiles, can be copied.  The challenge will be figuring out what is safe to copy and what needs to be created from scratch.

To move Pegasus Mail:

  • Copy C:\PMAIL from the old HD to C:\PMAIL on the SSD.
  • Manually execute WINPM-32.EXE to start Pegasus Mail.  This will create a registry entry which will tell the installer where Pegasus Mail is installed.
  • Run the Pegasus Mail installer as an upgrade.  Use the version appropriate installer if you don't want an upgrade.  This will create the shortcuts, allow you to set Pegasus Mail as your default mailer, and create the registry entries needed for SendTo functionality.

Thank you, Brian, for the quick response confirming what I hoped for.   The drive has been swopped and PM appears to be working fine -  the only problem I have now is, I accepted a software upgrade from Win 8 to Win 10, but I don't like it - still that is another story...!
