Can't delete two spam messages - not set to read-only

As you suggested, I sent a message to beta-reports with a copy of the CNM file as an attachment.  I WAS able to copy the file to another location and could rename the copied file at will.  The same holds true for all other CNM files.  However, Pmail has the original of this spam message locked for some reason.  I may be wrong, but I am assuming that forcing Pmail to lock it is some kind of spammer's trick and I wonder if it is able to do anything else to my system.

This morning I received two spam messages when I downloaded from my POP host.  Their Barracuda filter didn't catch them and I made the mistake of looking at one of them. I tried to delete both of them and tried to simply "move" them to the deleted folder, but can't get rid of them.  Neither are checked as read-only.

I found their CNM files and tried to delete and then rename them but could do nothing to them.  Note that other messages can easily be renamed - even when open in the reader.

Something is locking these two messages and I don't know how to deal with them.  Any suggestions?  For that matter, how can an email message figure out how to protect itself in a relatively obscure program like Pmail?

Thanks,

Craig

PS. Pmail reader couldn't display the contents of the message I looked at directly but pointed to the attachments.  I didn't "open" any attachments but browsed through them and the attachment viewer showed nothing.  It looked like an "infinite" number of attachments.  When I look at the CNM file I also see a very long list of what looks to me like fake attachments.

Still wondering how this happened, but I solved the problem by shutting down Pmail and deleting the PMN files.  Somehow the messages got locked by Pmail.

Just downloaded my POP mail again and got another spam message that is locked by Pmail.

I don't want to have to keep restarting Pmail.

Anyone know why this is happening and how I can stop it?

Most applications lock files while working on them, so this isn't a surprise. My assumption would be that Pegasus Mail (or some of its components) is staying busy with them so it doesn't unlock them until restart. Does Pegasus Mail allow working on other stuff while this happens or does it "freeze"? Can we get such a message (the CNM file, that is) forwarded to <beta-reports [@] pmail.gen.nz> for further investigation? Please send it attached to a message pointing to this thread here so we can tell it appart from all the spam found there.
