Selecting SMTP server from the POV of the email message

Use of Identities is working out well.

I have setup two different SMTP servers under Internet Options with prioritization in the ordering within the list.

Service A - Primary

Service B - Secondary

Both are enabled.

Normally I send email and the Primary [ Service A ] would send the email.

Sometimes I need to send email and it has to use the email address of Service B.  Presently I have to Disable Service A in Internet Options and when I send the email, it will then use Service B.  I will then have to re-enable Service A in Internet Options.  I can also stop Internet access and let all the emails I want to send using Service B be queued and then re-enable Internet access and then send queued email and then re-enable Service A in Internet Options.

However, that cumbersome.

How can I indicate or choose in the email message itself which SMTP server that message will use when I hit "Send" ?

I'm not sure "Identities" is the way to go about it.

I'm doing it this way: You may switch identities in the editor window when typing a new message.

Agreed.  Identities is the way to go.  They can be identical except for the SMTP server used.

When you create a new Identity you can base it on an existing Identity so do that, "become" that Identity, then set the appropriate SMTP server as active.

Keep in mind that most configuration settings are Identity specific so if you make a change in one, consider whether it needs to be changed in the other.

Also, in the Message and Replies area of configuration is a setting for "Add 'Identity' selector".  Enabled, it will add it to the toolbar of the new message window.

It seems to be working OK.

I just have to remember that before I hit "Send" of the intended email message, I have to choose Special --> Identity and choose  the alternate Identify setup with the Service B SMTP Server.

Obrigado

If you do as suggested by Brian in the third paragraph of his last message you don't need to go to the special tab!

Another trick, which may or may not be of value to you, is to associate an identity with a folder.  Say there are similar messages that you always reply to using a specific SMTP server, you can filter/store those messages in a specific folder to which you have associated an ID.  Now, whenever you reply to one of the messages in this folder, it will be as the associated ID.

To do this, right click on the folder name then select "Set default identity for entry".

Obviously this isn't of value when sending new messages but can help maintain consistency of the SMTP server in replies.

I don't want to "become" that identity.  I always want to be the Default which is Service A.  However I occasionally have to send new email as Service B or Reply as Service B.

Email is handled by RegEx and Colour of the message.  If the Email Address is that of Service B, the Email gets a different colour.
