"Rescue" Address List File From Pegasus

I really appreciate all the time and attention you've given over the last 3 months (!!!) trying to drag me into a place to fix my screwed up mail. The reformat seems to have lost all the existing info or else it is hopelessly lost to me. Life is too short, I uninstalled the entire Pegasus program and hope this will remove all the fragments existing all over my HDD.

Thanks again and I hate to be a quitter but my sanity seems more important. [:$]

My last thread in December about moving Pegasus to a "new" computer (I needed to have the hard drive re-formatted...) seems to have come to a stand still. I appreciate all the help offered but the bottom line s that it appears this problem will never be resolved. My abilities are not up to a level to easily do things required so it seems this will never happen. SO ...

Is there some way I can rescue just my address book? Can I take just the 'personalPMR and personalPM!' files and put them into a Pegasus download, save (probably on paper) the address I'd like to get back and then just dump the whole thing? Pegasus doesn't look like it will ever run again and it's been almost 3 months without anything working so I give up. But if I could salvage addesses I've had saved for years I could live with it. Any ideas or options I'd be glad to check out? Thanks.

Copy the address book PMR and PMI to a memory stick.  When you have built your new system, just copy across those files to the NewMail directory, (usually c:\pmail\mail\admi).

A .pmr file can be read with a text editor like Notepad.  It's not easy because of the spacing but if you just want to try to capture some important addresses you might be able to do it this way.  Have word wrap enabled so you can work vertically instead of both left/right and vertical.

You can use the Find & Find Next functions to jump to each email address by searching for @.

I tried this to start. I copied pmr and pm! files to a thumb drive (as recommended above) and tried to read in "word pad" and "notepad" but this was all I could get: personal addressbook and nothing further displayed. No @ or anything further showed although the file says 1.4kb . PM! file shows 0kb.

It sounds like the PMR file has just the title, and the PM! file is empty. So there is nothing to see :-(

Open the .PMR file with Notepad.  "Personal addressbook" should be visible top left.  If Word Wrap is not enabled, scrolling right should start showing the entries.  IMHO, this is too difficult a view to work in so enable Word Wrap (Format > Word Wrap) to bring the content into window width for vertical scrolling.

A 1.4KB .PMR file is awfully small.  One of mine is 2.8KB and it only contains six entries of name & email address, no details.  Might you have created a different addressbook instead of using the Personal one?  If so, look for a larger .PMR file.

The .PM! file won't be of any help in recovering email addresses.
