Hello,
Looks like a move from Win10 to Win11 is due soon, put off for long enough.
Whats the best way to to make this as seamless as possible. Done this years ago just cant recall the steps. Point me to earlier link if easier.
Thanks
Doug

It depends on how Pegasus Mail is installed on Win10. For specific advice, please provide the content displayed by the Info button located in Help > About Pegasus Mail. You can select all (Ctrl+A) then paste it in a reply. Nothing personal is in that content however please review it first before posting.

Your current Pegasus Mail installation makes it very easy to copy it to a new machine.

  • Make a copy of the entire C:\PMAIL on your Win10 machine
  • Paste it to C:\PMAIL\ on your Win11 machine
  • Create a shortcut on you Win11 machine that matches the command (Target) on your Win10 machine.
  • Temporarily add the -O (Oh, not zero) command line option to the shortcut. This will start Pegasus Mail in offline mode to prevent from immediately trying to check for new mail.
  • Execute the shortcut to start Pegasus Mail. This will create registry entry that will be used by the final step.
  • Shut down Pegasus Mail.
  • Run the Pegasus Mail v4.81 installer. It should run as an upgrade and will create the remaining registry entries needed for full functionality.

What specific help do you need? The GMail button is pretty intuitive. There are two things to be aware of:

  1. Make sure the email address displayed in the setup is correct.
  2. If you use multiple Identities and have one that is specific to your Gmail account, be sure to switch to that Identity before attempting the GMail oauth2 setup.

Also know that the process will include a step where you authenticate to Google.

IIRC, there is an option to replace your existing host configuration files with the new Oauth2 ones. I suggest not doing that so that you don't lose them in the event of an Oauth2 configuration issue. If you leave them, be sure to go into Internet Options and disable or remove them from the active hosts lists. Same for IMAP profiles if used.

Is this a confirmation of you having just now set it up and found it easy? I'm curious because I found it frustrating when I first used it but I now believe that my multiple Identities was the cause. Fixing the mess first made was enlightening from a support standpoint so I'm glad I went through it. I don't want anyone else going through it though.

Best wishes for a rapid and full recovery.

Nope. To be clear, multiple identities do not necessarily result in a "mess". There is just a bit more attentiveness required.

Pegasus Mail Users are different from Identities. Multiple Identities can exist for each User but they don't intermingle between Users. An example of the use of Identities would be if you had a Gmail account and a GMX account that you wanted to service from the same Pegasus Mail User, and, when you did replies you wanted to reply to Gmail messages as the Gmail account and GMX messages as the GMX account. You could do this with Identities because each Identity has its own configuration settings.
