address book failure

I am re-building my address books after a crash. Now when I create an email address and click to enter the address in the message box, the program tells me that "name" is not a valid address. The program does not connect the "name" with the address I put in the "Email Address:" box.

I am unclear on what you are describing but it appears to be associated with addressbook aliases so I will talk about that for now.

In addressbooks, the "name" value can be an alias that resolves to its associated email address. That is an option that must be enabled, either globally or per addressbook. Configuration is done via the "Addressbook properties" settings that can be accessed using the "Book" button located in the toolbar of the "Addressbooks and distribution lists" window.

When the option to "Apply the e-mail address instead of the alias" is enabled, then you can enter an addressbook "name" in the To: field of a new message and its associated "e-mail address" will be used when the message is sent. Otherwise, entering an addressbook "name" in the To: field will result in an invalid email address error.

I have been coresponding with a company "domainnamegroup" and their email was @domainnamegroup.com. They have changed their name to "@domainname" without "group." I have changed their address in my address book. But when I send an email to @domainname.com I get a bounce back with this from mailer-daemon@googlemail.com. "There was a temporary problem delivering your message to @domainnamegroup.com. Gmail will try again...." Somewhere there seems to be a hidden auto complete that thinks any thing with "@domainname.com" should also conrtain "group" and that's how it gets sent. How do I fix this.

Since you're talking about a crash the address book might not show all entries due to file corruption: Did you already try to reindex the affected address book (the Book button opens the menu with such an item called Reindex Addressbook)? Another reason might be an existing entry in the "recently used addresses" list (use the the Book button next to the right end of the address editor lines shown in the new email editor window to display the list).

Also, check the aliasing settings. I do not have any 'resolve aliases' options enabled.

I didn't finish my though in my previous post. The remainder was to enable the option to "Apply the e-mail address instead of the alias" if it isn't already enabled. This will then show you the actual email address in the To field of a new message.
