DNS attack

I recently had a DNS attack on my email account (hundreds of emails sent). I have managed to delete all the messages and changed the passwords for incoming and outgoing messages. Everything appears to be back to normal. Except I keep getting the pop-up message......

POP3 Network or Protocol Error
etc....

As mentioned, it does not affect my ability to send or receive emails. It's just annoying.

Can anyone help

Thanks

Mark

Do you mean a DOS (Denial of Service Attack)
Were they sending messages to your email or were they sending emails using your email address?

Was it your email server or provider's server or just spoofing your email address.

Do you have log entries showing if they were coming from a single IP address, or were the using lots of different servers to flood system.

If a single IP address, a firewall rule to just dump any access from a single IP.

Think a little more info needs to be provided. What is the POP3/SMTP server.

A "POP3 Network or Protocol Error" windows pops up when there is a problem between Pegasus Mail and the server that it contacted. The details included in that window should identify the issue. Often these errors are transient. They can be frustratingly random, or only happen on first connection of a session. Increasing the timeout value might help if they appear to be related to a timeout.

What version of Pegasus Mail are you running?

Check your Winsock setting in Tools > Options > Advanced settings > Load Windows Internet Services. It should be set to Always.

FWIW, there is a related discussion specific to GMail here. Unfortunately, it does not result in a definitive resolution.
