Try clicking the icon inside the red square.

A pop-up window will appear.

You can then drag and drop your screenshot into the area or click on it to browse for the corresponding file. Then, just press Upload to send the image to the server. A link to it will appear as part of your message.

Don't forget to post the message.

Looks like an incomplete installation, the advanced HTML renderer is missing. What Windows version are you running?

Hi Michael,

I updated my old 4.4 version again as administrator this time and it seems the problem is gone.

Thank you for your help

Pretty weird that nobody else reported such an issue so far ... What path did you install it to? Any kind of Windows ...\programs... directory?

as administrator
I always perform installations as an administrator or with administrator privileges. Perhaps this should be emphasized.

Oops! I got a little carried away. Pegasus should (or rather, it is suggested) be installed outside of the Windows domain folders. Administrator privileges are not required at all.

They are though, at least in my experience. I run Win11 as a use with standard privileges. UAC (User Account Control) forces authentication as an administrator whenever installing/updating Pegasus Mail and IERenderer. For a long time the Pegasus Mail installer failed to offer to upgrade when run as a standard user because it could not detect an existing installation. That was fixed in v4.91.

v4.41 is from 2007. If that was indeed the version being updated, I suspect the registry entries the installer looks for did not exist. The update still should have completed successfully if installed over top of it, but UAC should have forced authentication as an admin. IIRC, there are two UAC prompts, one for the Pegasus Mail installer and one for the IER installer. I wonder if the one for IER failed resulting in its installation being cancelled.

You are certainly more knowledgable than I am. So I can't comment back on your comments. But I can desribe what I did and perhaps you can infer from my description what happned.

I downloaded the 4.9 version app

I executed the app by clicking the name of the app

My previous 4.4 was found and I started the updating process

When it was finished, I opened the Pmail 4.9 version and discovered the blank windows

Then I reported my problem here

Next, I right clicked the utdating app and found that I can update it as administrator

I ran the 4.9 updating app again and then everything looked good

Well, you should have been prompted by the installer for admin elevation when launching the installer, no matter whether running as such or non-elevated. Could the right click be missing it?

When logged into Windows as a user with Standard privileges, there is a difference in the UAC behavior between right-click > "Run as administrator" and not.

When running as administrator, a UAC prompt occurs immediately upon triggering the .exe.

When NOT running as administrator, that UAC prompt does not appear until after the .exe has been extracted and the installation is about to begin.

Either way, it should have appeared twice.

I have not tested the behavior as an admin user.

@mjska54 , what account type is the Windows user you login as, Standard or Administrator?

I believe administrator.

I don't remember exactly what happned when I first did a standard installation. I believe I was only asked at the end of the process whether I wanted to finish the installation or read infos about new network featurs.

When I "updated / upgraded" the incomplete standard installation as admin, I was suprised how many files were transmitted / downloaded / installed. And again, at the end of the procedure I could decide between reading about new network features or finishing the installation.

Unfortunately, my digital expertise is very limited. I am a lay user.

I wonder if UAC is disabled on your PC. As a lay user, you likely would not have done it but if someone else set up the PC for you they might have. Whether enabled or not is moot other than a change in expected behavior of the installer. The unknown remains why the first update failed. At this point I don't think we'll ever know.

If you are curious about whether UAC is enabled, you can check it status by doing this:

  • Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog
  • In the Open box, type UserAccountControlSettings.exe
  • Press enter

If it is enabled, you should receive a UAC approval popup window at this point. You can authenticate to continue to the User Account Control Settings or press No to cancel since you now know that it is enabled.

If you don't receive a UAC prompt, then the User Account Control Setting window will open. You will see a slider that allows four levels of control. "Always notify" is the safest, "Never notify" turns it off.

I did what you suggested.
The window with the slider opened.
It has four defined levels.
Mine is set to the second highest, one below “always notify” (immer benachrichtigen).
I kept it at that level – so far.

Thank you for checking.

The explanation for the second level indicates that UAC notifications should still occur. I don't know of anything else to check that could explain why you didn't receive them. It bothers me though because of the effort made to improve the installer for 4.91.

Maybe it is a problem of the German installer only.

Good thought. @idw (Michael) should have experience with the German installer. I hope we'll hear from him about this.
