POP3 account difficulties

I am a new user (well, returning after many years of not using Pmail so I'm a bit rusty).

I cannot get my POP3 account to download anything. Having difficulty finding relevant articles on a fix.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated!

What ISP and what ports are you using.
What version of Pegasus Mail.

In old days used port 110 and port 25, but those are not secure, so there are Secure ports with SSL. Also, Gmail request either an app password setup, or an AUTH connection that the latest PMAIL supports.

So more info.

ISP = Spectrum/Charter (US based) using their email program (not gmail).

v 4.91.1746

Using ports (provided by ISP):

inbound = 993
outbound = 587

server names (as provided by ISP) = mail.twc.com

ISP says connections require SSL. I cannot get it to connect with or without SSL.

I do have a VPN and use ESET for antivirus.

Windows 11 (updated yesterday) on laptop. Laptop is less than 1 yr old.

have double checked password, user name and the receiving/sending server names. Appear correct in PMail.

not sure what to try next.

Your help is greatly appreciated! Last time I had the opportunity to use PMail was 2012, so I'm definitely rusty in the setup process.

Inbound port should be 995 not 993

FWIW, VPN's are known to cause problems with email, especially with sending due to an assumption that if you are using a VPN then you must be a spammer. Also, some ISPs verify that your IP address is one of theirs before attempting to authenticate. A VPN will cause that to fail. I don't recall if TWC does this. I have had two TWC accounts going back to RoadRunner days (decades ago) and have encountered the above issue I just don't recall if it was specific to RoadRunner or a different ISP.

You want to enable internet session logging during testing. You will find that option at the bottom of the General tab in Internet options.

Log files will be created in a directory named TCPLogs located in your mailbox directory. The log files are created with a filename extension that identifies the protocol that created the log (.pop3, .smtp, or .imap) but they are plain text files so can be read with a text editor. NO NOT post entire log files. The contain authentication credentials either in plain text or encoded in an easily decodable form. Normally you can identify the point and cause of a failure when reviewing a log so start off by posting just the entry that you think indicates the failure point.

BTW, Spectrum shut down my accounts about 15 months ago. They stated that they were discontinuing email service. They reinstated my accounts but warned me that the could be discontinued again without notice during a future round shutdowns. A second Spectrum customer service person confirmed this however I could never confirm it on the web. It seems unfathomable that they would shutdown an email account with no notice or opportunity to save the data but I don't have any doubt that it is exactly what they did to me. Both accounts still function today but are my throw-away accounts (eg: only given to entities that I never want to hear from but insist on having an email address to complete a single transaction).

Brian response is good, but found this that may are may not apply.
Is showing different server info??
(didn't paste nicely?)

ProtocolPurpose Unencrypted Port Encrypted Port (SSL/TLS)
POP3 Receiving (Downloads & deletes) 110 995
IMAP Receiving (Syncs across devices) 143 993
SMTP Sending 25 465 (or 587 for TLS)

The Spectrum/Charter outgoing mail (SMTP) server settings require using mobile.charter.net on port 587 with SSL/TLS security enabled. Authentication is mandatory, requiring your full email address and password. These settings apply to @charter.net, @spectrum.net, and legacy @roadrunner.com email addresses.Spectrum/Charter SMTP Settings DetailsSMTP Server: mobile.charter.netPort: 587Security Type: SSL/TLS (or STARTTLS)Authentication Required: YesUsername: Your full Spectrum/Charter email addressPassword: Your Spectrum/Charter email passwordTroubleshootingRelay Denied Error: Ensure that "Outgoing Server Authentication" is checked in your email client settings.Connection Issues: If 587 with SSL/TLS fails, try port 587 with STARTTLS or ensure the security type is set to "Automatic".Legacy Domains: While mobile.charter.net is standard, some legacy Brighthouse areas may use mail.brighthouse.com or mail.twc.com.For setting up incoming mail, the IMAP server is typically mobile.charter.net (port 993, SSL) or POP3 pop.charter.net (port 110, SSL

Hi everyone,

This is a legacy/road runner account. The clock is ticking on how long I have to retrieve these emails before Spectrum shuts down my account.

So I shut off the VPN and edited 2 items. It did download the emails. Woo HOO!!!

New issue on this setup. How do I get PMail to pull the contents of the existing mail folders? They did not pull . . . .

I desperately need those folders too . . . . .

Thank you again for your help!

POP3 only retrieves messages from what the host presents as the inbox. I don't recall its web interface and don't have time to dig into it now but I would first look to see if there is a way to move all messages back to the inbox so Pegasus Mail can retrieve them via POP3. Otherwise, the only way to access the other folders is to connect via IMAP. This protocol is a connection through which Pegasus Mail to reads what is on the host server. You can then copy messages to local folders (folders in "My mailbox" of the Pegasus Mail folder list).
