How did you move setup?
Was old setup using C:\PMAIL and new setup the Same?
If different, some things will need to be check.

Generally, if you copy che C:\PMAIL from old Machine and put it exactly the same Pegasus will pick everything up correctly.

If you installed Pegasus on the new machine, and then copied folders, there can be issues.

First thing. Do you know if you were using Single user Setup of Multi user setup.
In single user setup the directory C:\PMAIL\MAIL will have the Single users files. In and Multi-user setup, there will only be a few files, and then will have subdirectories for the user or users (Admin as default).

In the C:\PMAIL\Programs there is a file PMAIL.CFG.
Note: This is not a text file so don't edit it with notepad or other text editor or wordprocessor, but you can that a quick look at it using the type command.
With a single user setup you will see something like this.
C:\PMAIL\MAILC:\PMAIL\MAIL
With a Multi-user setup, it will be something like this.
C:\PMAIL\MAIL~NC:\PMAIL\MAIL~N

With Single user C:\PMAIL\MAIL has lots of file.

With Multi User it generally just had the PMAIL.USR file and then subdirectories for each user.

PMAIL.USR
; PMAIL.USR Pegasus Mail user database.
A;Admin;Mail Administrator

If these are not in sync, the program to correct the problem is in C:\PMAIL\Programs
PCONFIG32.EXE
Would run it, and correct the setting.

So, again. Look at your PMAIL.CFG, PMAIL.USR, C:\PMAIL\MAIL directory.

If those files are properly sync, the folders should appear. If you installed on a different drive letter PCONFIG32.EXE could correct that. There is also a PMAIL.INI file that has lines that link to location, that might need to be manually changed if you used a different drive letter.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your support.

I'll come back after a check off all your remarks.

Thanks

Patrick

here the situation

On the old PC - only one user

1 - C:\pmail contains only the directory programs
2 - folders are stored on E:\pmail\mail\Patrick
3 - pmail.cfg is in the directory c:\pmail\programs and contains the right directory E:\pmail\mail\Patrick
4 - 4 files .INI are also in the directory c:\pmail\programs
4 - Shortcut runs pmail with -l Patrick

On the new PC - it seems installed in multi-users

1 - C:\pmail contains \programs and \mail\admin, \mail\Patrick + Pmail.usr. Each subfolder \mail contains the 4 .ini files
2 - folders are stored on E:\pmail\mail\Patrick
3 - The is no pmail.cfg in the C:\pamil\programs directory

I did not see during the installaton to chose between mono or multi user

Should I copy the c:\pmail\programs directory ?

thanks

Something is not right with the new installation but I don't think there is any reason to try to troubleshoot it because I think it will be disposed of in the end.

If, and this is an important IF, the mail data was at E:\pmail\mail\Patrick on the old machine and remains on E:\pmail\mail\Patrick on the new machine the I suggest doing the following:

  • On the new machine, rename C:\Pmail to C:\Pmail_MayBeBad
  • Copy the entire content of C:\Pmail from the old machine to C:\Pmail on the new machine.
  • Start Pegasus Mail using the same shortcut on the new machine that you used on the old machine although you might consider temporarily adding the -O (oh, not zero) option so that it starts in Offline mode. This will give you time to check that everything seems OK before bringing in any new mail.

If you can see your existing folders, mail, address books, and the hosts configured in Internet options then you are in good shape. You can restart Pegasus Mail without the -O option whenever you are ready for it to be checking for new mail.

You can delete the C:\Pmail_MayBeBad directory once things are functioning normally.

The PMAIL.CFG is usually in C:\PMAIL\Programs (don't know if was typo).
1024 Jun 5 2025 PMAIL.CFG
Is usually 512 or 1024 characters.

With type command would see
On single user setup.
C:\PMAIL\MAILC:\PMAIL\MAIL
On multi user setup.
C:\PMAIL\MAIL~NC:\PMAIL\MAIL~N

Again not a text file Null terminated strings.

Thanks to msetzerii and Brian Fluet for their support.

I followed the proposal of Brian; It became already +/- clear in my mind, but your confirmation has been very helpfull to "do it" :-)

I see now all the folders, but I loosed the "filing trays" in the folder's organization.

I think it will be possible to reconstruct that by comparison with the old PC.

Thanks again.

Patrick

I am glad you are making progress. I don't understand why you lost the Tray structure through. It is stored in a file that should have been included in what you copied from the old machine. Regardless, I hope it is not too difficult to rebuild.
