Recovering password

Hello,

Is there any way how to find the password back on your PC?

With our non-profit, we already use Pegasus mail for decades, still happy with it.

My partner uses Pegasus Mail on her laptop, but now she wants to use email on her iPhone as well.

Unfortunately, we no longer know the password. Email works fine on the laptop, and the password is stored internally within the Pegasus Mail system and in the internet definitions.

Is there any way to find out what this password is?

I can change the password easily (I hope) on the server-side of our hosting company. However, I do not want to change it and then find out that suddenly a very large PMail system (13 Gb) with emails about our non-profit work suddenly becomes inaccessible because the update did not worked as planned.

Any ideas if and how to do this? I saw some very dodgy programs stating they can do it, but I would not install those programs on my PC or laptop

Generally, use the create log file and in the log file the password will appear in plan text.

Tools / Internet option
Click on the create Internet Log.
Then do the connection
You can then find the TCPLogs directory, and it will have the password.
Don't upload the files without removing password.

Hope that helps.

Found new problem. On my pmail, with multi-user, everything works perfectly. However, with my partner, with only one user, actually the donwload new mail button does not work anymore.

You have to close the new mail or close pmail completely and open it again to download new mail. Also, it did not generate a log file.

?????

Not enough information.

Is your partner one of the users of your multi-user Pegasus Mail or are they running a separate installation? If one of the multi-users, then Pegasus Mail must be restarted to change users. The ability to change users during a single instance was removed several versions ago.

Regarding the log file, logging must be enable while running Pegasus Mail as the partner, and the log file will then be in the partners mailbox \TCPLogs directory.

Couple things.

  1. TCPLogs directory is under each users Mail directory. So in the mail directory - C:\PMAIL\MAIL you should see and admin subdirectory, and can see others. If you use the admin directory C:\PMAIL\MAIL\Admin\TCPLogsI just created a JaneDoe in my test multiuser setup.PMAIL/MAIL# du .160 ./ADMIN40 ./JaneDoe

So if you select other than admin, the logs would be in there subdirectory.

I also would like to recover my password because it's been so long (many years and many versions ago) since I set it up I forgot it. The instructions were carefully followed and upon checking the log it seems the password as shown may have been encrypted. It definitely is not the password I used as I'm sure I would recognize it. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that this would be the case for security reasons.

Am I missing something in what appears to be a straightforward procedure? Thanks in advance for any comment.

Just did the on my system with 3 account.
Looked at TCPlogs directory after doing a check email and had 3 new files.

dir TCPLogs/

First few lines of the top one.

19:51:01.064: >> +OK<cr><lf>

Of course changed the password and didn't include the reset.
Other one has my gmail connection, but it uses an app password that was created by gmail, so is a fixed size and only lower case, so isn't one I created.

Third is gmx account, and I had the browser create a secure passord, so it was the plain text password

so what are you seeing on the PASS LINE. (Make sure to modify the line.

IMHO, the straightforward and appropriate process is to go through the change password process at you host and the update Pegasus Mail with the new password rather than asking us to provide a password hack.

Problem is that many processes require you to enter the current password before it will let you change the password. Justification is that if someone doesn't sign off, another person can not just change the password without knowing the current password..

I've got a problem with Bank of Hawaii that sounds crazy.

  1. Go to web site to setup an only account. They ask about 8 different things, and everything goes fine. But at end of process it comes back with something doesn't match their data, and it fails. Doesn't mention what item doesn't match, and tried all kinds of combinations. Mailing address, House address, and many other things. Called the local branch in Guam, but person there had same results over phone, went to the branch on Guam, same thing. No clue what the issue is. Just fails. Call the Hawaii number, and same thing Can access with ATM card, and write checks, just no access to setup an online account. Had account going back to 2000. So, have no clue what info they say doesn't macth. Uses my mail address for bills, and that is unchanged since 1978?

So, have to go to ATM machine to check balance since online does work with internet, and same thing happens with their app.

Think Pegasus has aways done that ithe the log file have the unencoded password. Back in the old old days, on Novell Networks it linked to the Bindery or NDS network password.
Good Luck.

Thanks to both Mike and Brian for the comments. I appreciate Mike's insights and Brian's suggestion. I'm a bit embarrassed I didn't think of such an obvious and simple solution. Best regards!
