PM appears to be hung for many minutes

I have just installed PM for the first time, so complete newbie.

  1. On loading PM, the splash screen appears, then sits there for upto 4minutes before continuing to the mail display.
  2. On apparently random occasions, PM freezes with the win11 window header saying PM is not responding. Leave it alone for up to 3-4minutes and PM continues normally.

I would suggest I have not installed something correctly. Any suggestions as this is becoming a game stopper.

Cheers......
Malcolm.

Hello @mnak. Welcome to the Pegasus Mail family.

Check the following:

  • Make sure your system has a default printer configured. If it does, make sure it is on and the PC can access it. If it doesn't, add one, even if you don't have a physical printer. I think installing the Microsoft PDF printer and setting it as the default would work. At one time I would recommended installing the Microsoft PCL6 Class Driver printer but that goes back to Windows 7 days. Post back if this is a hurdle that you need more help with. This is a requirement because Pegasus Mail is dependent on printer fonts.

  • In the Pegasus Mail menu Tools > Options > General settings > Advanced settings ensure that the "Load Windows Internet Services" option is set to "Always".

  • If the directory C:\Temp does not exist, create it. The alternate HTML renderer in Pegasus Mail depends on the existence of C:\Temp in order to function properly.

Thanks for responding Michael & Brian.

Followed the instructions for the instal, so all into the default locations.

. "Load windows....." in settings set to always.
. No c:\temp so created & opened up permissions
. Default printer set to my network printer at home. (currently remote) Set default to MS pdf printer.

Much, MUCH better. Looks like endeavouring to talk to an off-line printer was the issue.

Many thanks for your prompt and accurate assistance.

Thank you for posting this. It confirms that the MS PDF printer is a viable option for anyone without a printer or using a remote printer that might be off-line.
