Pegasus Start up freeze

We have 90 plus peg users. One user's account has started to freeze in minimised mode on start up. When maximised it's unresponsive & needs to closed via taskmgr I have reset state.pmj to no avail. We can open mail in roundcube perfectly but he's a Pegasus head & needs it back. Ideas welcome

We know of an anomaly caused by a corrupted new mail message that can cause Pegasus Mail to hang at startup so my first suggestion is that you remove (copy to another location) all .CNM files from the users mailbox directory and then test a Pegasus Mail startup. It this works, all is well, then you can restore the new mail message files, testing startup as you go. A rule of thumb used to be that the problem file would be one received since last successful startup. That is still a good assumption to start with but is not always the case. Basically, this is a trial and error process until you identify the specific problem message.

Other thoughts:

When maximized, what is showing at bottom left where it normally displays "Press <F1> for help"?

Have you waited as long as 5 minutes to see if the hang clears (wondering if user lost his default printer which can result in extraordinarily slow startups)?

A few things more than the ones Brian pointed out.
Some unlikely, but better to check to be sure.

In the users mail directory how many CNM files are there?
Don't recall the exact number, but there is a point at which the number is too high.

Sorting the PMM Files how Big are they? Think the limit is about 2G.
My largest PMM file is under 600M so not close.

Pegasus is a 32bit Program, so could be these issues.

Other things to check. Does the C:\TEMP directory exist and is it Read/Write.

What is default Printer? Sometime if it is a Network printer, and not available it causes issues.

Could be something in the WINRULE*.PMC files (mail filter rule files). sometimes bad rules can cause problems. Rules moving or copying messages to folders that no longer exist. Make backups, and then rename.

How much free space is on drive. What is in C:\TEMP and users Temp directory.
What version of OS is being used? Which version of Pegasus? Is it a local or network setup? Any anti-virus or anti-malware software?

Thanks for getting back Brian - I went on a run to plan out a flow chart of what steps to try next...but by the time I had returned to me desk the user had tried again & got his Pegasus account working with a number of key strokes he can't remember. It sounded like another window was popping up 'unseen' that needed a response. I've seen that before at startup especially if you have a lot of saved msgs. I think your thought about the default printer not being found may have a bearing as i could see a printer child process of winpm in taskmgr.
Perhaps if we'd been more patient it would have righted it self. I think the user found a msg window about printers hidden from view with an alt tab type move & entered on 'ok'.
But that's all academic now....but one for the memory banks.
Thanks again!
