I have been a Pegasus user since the early 1990's

This is a first. I am still on 4.8,

When I exit Pegasus read New Mail does not move to my email received Folder? I looked in Options and I the move new mail is allowed?

There may be some sort of corruption to the folder files of your email received folder, or perhaps it has reached the 2GB file size limit. If the folder is huge you might consider just leaving it as an archive and using a new folder going forward. If you don't think the 2GB size limit is the issue then try reindexing it then restarting Pegasus Mail to see if that solves the problem.

If it doesn't, please test using a newly created folder as the email received folder.

• Create a new folder.
• Go to Tools > Options > Basic settings then use the "Select folder" button to select the newly created folder that populates the "Name for default mail folder:" field. Use the button, don't just type in the new folder's name.
• While in Tools > Options > Basic settings, confirm that the "Allow read messages to stay in the new mail folder" is not ticked. Keep in mind that these setting are Identity specific.
• Restart Pegasus Mail and see if the read messages have been moved.

You were correct. I simply moved several large files from email received to a new folder, and now read files in New Mail can and has moved over. I was at near maximum size. However, this is odd. I now have 2 identical email received folders with the exact same size and name showing? Both open and seem to work? I tried to remove one, but it deleted both.

Oh no! I hope you were able to recover from this.

We have seen the duplicate folder issue before, just recently in fact, with a problem similar to yours. It appears that in both cases the duplicate was in name only, so not a duplicate folder but a duplicate entry in the folder list. In the other case, a restart of Pegasus Mail solved the problem.

Pegasus Mail uses unique filenames for its folder files so I suggest checking the filename of both of these to confirm they are different. If they are, renaming one of them would be prudent. After renaming, go back to Tools > Options > Basic settings and re-select the folder you want as the default mail folder.

To find the filename associated with a folder, right click on the folder in the Folder list then select "Folder information...". You will see the associated .PMM filename in the resulting display.

Now I have 4 email received...it was 2 an hour ago. Under folder information they all show exact same file size and name and location... They all open the same file. No errors yet. just weird.

This is concerning. Here are a couple of things that I would consider doing if this was happening to me.

1. I would put Pegasus Mail offline, rename this folder, create a new email received folder, move all messages from the renamed folder to the new one, select the new one as the default mail folder, restart Pegasus Mail.

2. Rebuild HIERARCH.PM (the file that maintains the Folder list), but ONLY if you don't use Trays in your Folder list (a rebuild will remove any Tray structure). To do a rebuild, close Pegasus Mail, rename the HIERARCH.PM file located in your New mailbox directory, start Pegasus Mail. It will poll all folder files to populate the Folder list, creating a new HIERARCH.PM file in the process.

I am afraid to mess with Pegasus to much, as I am afraid I could lose data. Since it seems stable right now, even though I still show 2 email received folders, and sometimes 4-5, I think I will not touch it. Now if we could share a screen, and you walked me through, I would do that?

I don't do remote support like that. If your installation is a default one where the program files and mail data is all i C:\Pmail then it is extremely easy to backup Pegasus Mail simply by making a copy of C:\Pmail. You can then attempt fixes and should something unexpected happen, you simply revert to the copy.

If you don't know the details of your installation, go to Help > About Pegasus Mail then click the Info button. Copy the entire content of the resulting display and paste it into a reply. I contains the details of the installation but nothing personal or security related. I am happy to take a look a that and then post a step-by-step of how I would approach solving the issue although an important question is: Do you have a Tray structure in your folder list, and if so, how onerous would it be to recreate it?

First question....all my issues are in email mail received. I still have 2 identical folders...but when I look at the files in Explorer I see I have multible .pmm .pmi combos? Should I only have one pair?

PMM and PMI pairs are for each Pegasus Mail folder you have. So number should match to your folders.

In my setup, I have program to rename folders so they have names linked to folder.
Old DOS version allowed one to rename folders easily. I wrote program to do same.
So my folders have names versus having most be FOL*.

Just way I like to see things. Don't like having to figure which pair is which.

@msetzerii explained the association of .pmm/.pmi file pairs with Pegasus Mail folders. An exception is the New Mail folder. It does not have an associated file pair. I simply lists all messages that exist in the form of new messages (.cnm files).

You said, "email mail received" but IIRC your the folders you are referring to are named "email received". Also, IIRC, when you right-click on each one of them in the folder list and check their folder information, they both show the same filename. If that remains the case, AND changes made in the message content in one of them is reflected in the other one, then you will have to decide whether you want to take on the challenge of removing one of them from the folder list. I don't know what this would entail, but I suspect some trial and error may be required in which case backups with preparation for restoration would be important. I am traveling for the next 7 days so may not be readily available until I get home. I would also want a new discussion dedicated to that so if you want to pursue it, I suggest starting a new discussion sometime the later part of next week with a subject related to removing a duplicate folder in the folder list.
