I had an old hard drive backed up on a thumb drive. I want to read some of my old emails. I don't see any way to read these using Pegasus unless I copy them to a file in the Pegasus system. Is this correct? There are thousands of them.
No. There is a way. The process involves adding a directory to your Pegasus Mail folder list as an added mailbox.
You will see now see this mailbox at the bottom of your Folders list.
To remove it, right click on it then select the 'remove...' option (I think it is "Remove mailbox from list" ).
I have created the folder, but where is the "diretory path" button?
It isn't a "button" per se. A radio button is a selector, in this case there are two radio buttons, on for "Directory path" and one for "Username". You can only select one. You must then type the path or the Username in space below the radio buttons.
I open the mailbox and click on "add". A box comes up saying "name and type for new folder". There are two choices, "message folder or filing tray".
The box you show doesn't seem to exist in my version of Pegasus - 4.91.
It sounds like you are clicking the Add button in the toolbar. You need to be clicking the "Folders" pull-down menu item. Review my original post.
You may notice a "Folder" menu item instead of "Folders". If you do, it is because that menu item is dynamic, switching between "Folder" and "Folders" depending on whether a single folder has focus or whether the folder list has focus.
