SOLVED: Can't Install Beta

UPDATE: solved! See third post, below.

I'm trying to install the current beta, m32-492-pb.exe, and I get an error that says:

"This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher."

I'm running Win 10 Pro, 10.0.19045, where Mercury 4.9 is cheerfully running without complaint.

Can anyone tell me if there's a fix for this?

The installer starts without problems here using Windows 10 version 19045.6456, so either the file was damaged in download or some local security setting or anti-malware application has blocked it. Some hints here: https://woshub.com/how-windows-determines-that-the-file-has-been-downloaded-from-the-internet/

The installer does cause a Windows error about the publisher, and I have to manually encourage it to 'run anyway'. The error I'm describing happens after that, and as far as I can tell is complaining about the Windows version, not the origins of the installer.

I tried to get some screenshots and downloaded it to another Windows 10 machine, the same version, and not only did I not get the error, I didn't get the 'unknown publisher' or 'this can harm your computer' error either. Hmm!

Downloaded it again on the first machine and oh ho, yes, there's the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I would never have suspected a bad download, I can't remember the last time that happened. It's been a lot of years!
