IERenderer or BearHTML issue?

Hello:
Edit:
It seems that I have the same issue as Al345.
I had made sure that the upgrade worked with the new SSL version requirements but had not sent any emails since the upgrade last night.

I will give it a thorough read and see what I can do.
In the meantime, please consider moving this post to that specific thread as it has the same issue.
https://community.pmail.com/index.php?u=/topic/12491/help-pegasus-on-linux-letter-salad-on-v4-80-and-later
ie: when typing an email all I get is garbage on the screen, even if I copy/cut paste from a *.txt file.

Long time PMail user, first time being on W3.11 after ditching the other option/s available, if my memory serves me right, Eudora Mail?.

Firm believer in the "if it works don't fix it" principle, up until yesterday I was running on v.4.73 but as one of my email providers ungraded the SSL version requirements (gmx.net) I finally decided to upgrade to the latest available version:

v4.91.1746, 11 Aug 2025 18:19:07, build ID 1746.

All this in my [Linux Devuan] box under [Wine 8.0], the latest available in the Debian/Devuan repositories.
In exemplary form, w32-491.exe upgraded without a hitch and I was up and running again in less than 5'.
Can't beat that ...

That said, while I am still having the issue of the very small and slightly readable legends/titles above the folder icons (ie: open, reply, forward, etc.) something else has come up.

This installation was upgraded (late) to v4.73 years ago and been transplanted to whatever Wine was running in the respective distribution installed in my box at the time for a number of years without issues and whatever I did with the IERenderer thing survived.
But it seems to have failed this time.

A number of emails that I could open and switch between views by hitting the View button if I needed now show jumbled trash in both options.

I have had a look at the files and it seems that (as instructed at the time) I renamed `IERenderer.fff¨.

Not wanting to screw up my installation, I'd appreciate instructions on how to deal with this as (as I mentioned) Pmail has always worked and I have had very little to do to keep it running.

Best,

S.

It seems that I have the same issue as Al345.

I'm not sure whether you are since you only say that reading is affected, nothing about editing or the help display. And if so here's an important note about disabling IERenderer manually (which is not recommended instead of using the uninstaller): Disabling only IERenderer.fff is not sufficient for keeping it loaded, you'll also have to disable renderer.pm for keeping it out of play. Maybe this would fix a reader-only issue ...?

Hello:

I'm not sure whether you are ...

Sorry for the lack of clarity.
1.
The upgrade to v4.91 solved the SSL problem.
I was able to do [IMAP] and [POP3] on [gmx.net] but did not try SMTP but I presume it worked.
2.
I posted two screenshots on AI 435's post that show what happens when I open one of the emails I had and when I tried to compose an email with v.4.91.
3.
As a result I went back (using BackInTime) to v.4.73.

... nothing about editing or the help display.

The help display did not seen to be affected.

... note about disabling IERenderer manually (which is not recommended instead of using the uninstaller) ...

My Pmail installation comes from way back. I recall renaming the [IERenderer] file as per instructions obtained in the old forum.

... also have to disable renderer.pm for keeping it out of play.

My v4.73 ony has the [.fff] renamed as [.zzz] but the not [.pm].

Maybe this would fix a reader-only issue ...?

I will try again and report.
Thanks for your input.
Best,
S.

Hello:

I will try again and report.

Unfortunately it did not work.
I moved the [PMAIL/Mail] directory, and nuked the rest and made a new install from scratch, something new for me.
To avoid confusion, I will continue this thread on the one by AI345.
Please have a look there.
Thanks for your input.
Best,
S.

one of my email providers ungraded the SSL version requirements (gmx.net) I finally decided to upgrade

No need: Version 4.73 still works fine with GMX as of today.

I had the same reflex, but the thing that has actually changed at GMX is that to send mail using Pagasus you now need to create a special "App password" for Pegasus (in GMX Account settings).
Using that "app password" and my usual SMTP settings (direct SSL connect (465), login to the SMTP server) I can still send mail using good old Pegasus 7.43.

Fortunately, because it seems we're stuck with it... :-(

Great news!
Thanks for that.

I see.
I have had this gmx account for many years now but, not being fluent in German, I have very rarely used the webmail interface, relying on POP3, SMTP and IMAP.

Using that "app password" and my usual SMTP settings (direct SSL connect (465), login to the SMTP server) I can still send mail using good old Pegasus 7.43.

I have just been looking to see where that would be but cannot find it.
There was one page that required a DE mobile number, which being on the other end of the world, I do not have.

I would be very obliged if you would steer me through the process.

Best,

S.

Hello:

I would be very obliged if you would steer me through the process.

No need ...
Finally worked it out.
That said, I hope the problem with v4.91 gets fixed eventually.
Maybe fixing that will also fix another rather annoying but bearable problem with how PMail application fonts are seen in Linux systems.
ie:
Open | Reply | Forward | Copy | Move | Delete, etc.
From | Subject | Date/Time, etc.

Practically all text belonging to the PMail UI has this issue, both in v4.73 and v4.91:

6aca355eb26d3
6aca3572e023d

This app-password will work with [gmx.de] and eventually with [gmx.com] if and when they stop using SSL1.0/1.1.
Cannot say what will happen with my main account which is probably using SSL1.0/1.1.
Thank you very much for the heads-up on this, it has been a life saver.

Best,

S.
