Editing spellcheck dictionary

Is there a way to do this? Assuming this is words4.db3, mine is getting rather large...

Is there a way to do this? Assuming this is words4.db3, mine is getting rather large...

words4.db3 is the database that holds the spam and non-spam tokens used by Spamhalter. If you want to create a new one you can start with the default starter file which is available here: http://www.vandenbogaerde.net/files/words4.zip

The user words dictionary used by the spellchecker is in USRDICT5.PMD. It is a plain text file that can be edited.

Just some additional info I check on regarding the DICTS directory.

Some files are very old. Just did a check getting the latest versions from the libreoffice links.

The v5dict files are from Pegasus, since they don't exist in libreoffice.

A zip of these.

the updated en ones seem to work fine, never tested the others.

Don't now if there are any issues with using the newer ones?

Had to do some fancy things, since originally was always giving files with todays date.

Some files are very old. Just did a check getting the latest versions from the libreoffice links.

The only old ones associated with Pegasus Mail that might exist are PMDICT3.PMD and/or PMDICT3xx.PMD. These were dictionary in version prior to 4.70. An upgrade to 4.70 did not remove them. They can be deleted.
The "xx" is where a language indicator would be. For instance, the U.S. English version was PMDICT3US.PMD.

So this is updating the Full Dictionary files.

Have no ideal how different the directionaries are. I've only actually tested the english ones. But format seems compatiable.

So, use the old ones is fine, but maybe the new ones have improvements. Don't know.

Totally different PMDICT3 and PMDICT5 files are words that the user had added. PMDICT3 was old name, and PMDICT5 has been around for a while, and 4.80 had a bug that kept wiping it out, so at one point had to flag as read only.

In 4.80 is was USRDICT5.PMD that was being wiped out.

Regarding the reference to "PMDICT3", there once were two, PMDICT3.PMD and PMDICT3.PMH.

PMDICT3.PMD (which could be in the form of PMDICT3xx.PMD) was the dictionary file prior to the introduction of the Hunspell spell checker in 4.70. It is no longer used.
PMDICT3.PMH is the homonym file that is used to create the list of alternatives when a misspelling is detected.

So looks like 3 different types of DICT files.

use to have a USRDICT3.PMD, but removed it when found the newer versions moved to USRDICT5.PMD.

The C:\PMAIL\Programs\DICTS files from install are 1 to 2 decades old, so if one is fine with that no problem. Assume they have been updated for some reason.
z3.sh script takes about 7 seconds to download the new .dic and .aff file, sticks with using the same .v5dict files.

Script has some code to keep the actual dates of the files, first ones would have files correctly, but would use the current date.

Created working with Google AI sometimes clean up, but it works as is.

To clarify again. Clarification on file with DICT in names. find . | grep -i DICT ./Programs/DICT.RLO ./Programs/PMDICT3.PMH (VERY VERY OLD) 138 Jul 21 1996 Programs/PMDICT3.PMH ite,ight,eight; f,ph; ow,ough,ou,eau,oa; ly,lly,lie; ate,eight,ait; aw,oar,ore; ine,ign; ck,cc,ch; ee,ea,ie; ont,on't; im,I'm; ./Programs/DICTS (Directory with Full dictionaries) ./Programs/DIC TS/cs_CZ.dic ./Programs/DICTS/en_us.v5dict ./Programs/DICTS/es_ES.dic ./Programs/DICTS/de_DE_igerman98.aff ./Programs/DICTS/es_ES.aff ./Programs/DICTS/en_gb.dic ./Programs/DICTS/fr-classique+reforme1990.dic ./Programs/DICTS/en_US.dic ./Programs/DICTS/de_DE_igerman98.v5dict ./Programs/DICTS/en_gb.v5dict ./Programs/DICTS/fr-classique+reforme1990.v5dict ./Programs/DICTS/en_US.aff ./Programs/DICTS/de_DE_igerman98.dic ./Programs/DICTS/z3.sh (shell script that download new .dic and .aff) ./Programs/DICTS/cs_CZ.aff ./Programs/DICTS/cs_cz.v5dict ./Programs/DICTS/es_es.v5dict ./Programs/DICTS/fr-classique+reforme1990.aff ./Programs/DICTS/en_gb.aff The USRDICT files for locally added words ./MAIL/USRDICT5.PMD.bk ./MAIL/USRDICT5.PMD ./MAIL/USRDICT5.PMDS In my mail directory I have the current file, with .bk and PMDS backups. 254 USRDICT5.PMD 251 USRDICT5.PMD.bk 252 USRDICT5.PMDS 2048 Dec 27 2022 USRDICT5.PMD.bk 2057 Jul 4 2023 USRDICT5.PMDS 2066 Oct 10 2025 USRDICT5.PMD So looks like 3 different types of DICT files. use to have a USRDICT3.PMD, but removed it when found the newer versions moved to USRDICT5.PMD. The C:\PMAIL\Programs\DICTS files from install are 1 to 2 decades old, so if one is fine with that no problem. Assume they have been updated for some reason. z3.sh script takes about 7 seconds to download the new .dic and .aff file, sticks with using the same .v5dict files. Script has some code to keep the actual dates of the files, first ones would have files correctly, but would use the current date. Created working with Google AI sometimes clean up, but it works as is. ```` #!/bin/sh # Decodes to the exact raw and API github domains securely RAW_HOST=$(echo "cmF3LmdpdGh1YnVzZXJjb250ZW50LmNvbQ==" | base64 -d) API_HOST=$(echo "YXBpLmdpdGh1Yi5jb20=" | base64 -d) BASE="https://${RAW_HOST}/LibreOffice/dictionaries/master" API_BASE="https://${API_HOST}/repos/LibreOffice/dictionaries/commits?path=" echo "Downloading files..." curl -Z --parallel-max 12 \ "${BASE}/en/en_GB.aff" -o en_gb.aff \ "${BASE}/en/en_GB.dic" -o en_gb.dic \ "${BASE}/en/en_US.aff" -o en_US.aff \ "${BASE}/en/en_US.dic" -o en_US.dic \ "${BASE}/cs_CZ/cs_CZ.aff" -o cs_CZ.aff \ "${BASE}/cs_CZ/cs_CZ.dic" -o cs_CZ.dic \ "${BASE}/es/es_ES.aff" -o es_ES.aff \ "${BASE}/es/es_ES.dic" -o es_ES.dic \ "${BASE}/de/de_DE_frami.aff" -o de_DE_igerman98.aff \ "${BASE}/de/de_DE_frami.dic" -o de_DE_igerman98.dic \ "${BASE}/fr_FR/dictionaries/fr.aff" -o fr-classique+reforme1990.aff \ "${BASE}/fr_FR/dictionaries/fr.dic" -o fr-classique+reforme1990.dic echo "Fixing timestamps via GitHub API..." set_time() { REPO_PATH=$1 LOCAL_FILE=$2 # Fetch latest commit date for the file path from API ISO_DATE=$(curl -s "${API_BASE}${REPO_PATH}" | grep -m 1 '"date":' | sed -E 's/.*"date": "([^"]+)".*/\1/') if [ ! -z "$ISO_DATE" ]; then # Strip the Z timezone tag, remove punctuation, and add the decimal point before seconds TOUCH_FORMAT=$(echo "$ISO_DATE" | sed -E 's/Z//g; s/[-T:]//g; s/(.{12})/\1./') touch -t "$TOUCH_FORMAT" "$LOCAL_FILE" fi } set_time "en/en_GB.aff" "en_gb.aff" set_time "en/en_GB.dic" "en_gb.dic" set_time "en/en_US.aff" "en_US.aff" set_time "en/en_US.dic" "en_US.dic" set_time "cs_CZ/cs_CZ.aff" "cs_CZ.aff" set_time "cs_CZ/cs_CZ.dic" "cs_CZ.dic" set_time "es/es_ES.aff" "es_ES.aff" set_time "es/es_ES.dic" "es_ES.dic" set_time "de/de_DE_frami.aff" "de_DE_igerman98.aff" set_time "de/de_DE_frami.dic" "de_DE_igerman98.dic" set_time "fr_FR/dictionaries/fr.aff" "fr-classique+reforme1990.aff" set_time "fr_FR/dictionaries/fr.dic" "fr-classique+reforme1990.dic" echo "Done." ```` Not a big deal.
