MailMerge glitch?

[quote user="Arthur van Haarlem"]

Well.....

I tried copy/paste from a D-list in Notepad.

I tried typing the email addresses by hand in Notepad.

I tried exporting as CSV from a spreadsheet.

Either I get an extra "a" behind every email address (someone@hotmail.coma) or I get the error message: "A" is not a valid email address.

This happens both on my PC and my laptop.

Can someone suggest a (pref. free) program that makes a text file without the extra "a"???

Thanks in advance

Editpad is an ASCII editor and should save as plain text.  That said, Notepad saves as plain text for me as well.

I have used MailMerge a few times and it always went smooth.

Today, when I did my "dry run" I noticed that after the email address in the TO-field an "a" was added.

The email address would read like: SomeName@hotmail.coma

Any ideas anyone?

Regards,

Arthur

I recommend checking the data file.  There may be trailing blanks or something similar.  I always use tab-delimited data files that I create using Excel and it works quite well.

I created the data file in this manner:

I made a D-list and selected addresses from my address book.

I copied the addresses from de D-list and pasted them in Notepad.

Would this methode copy something that cannot be seen?

Probably.  The mail merge functions uses only the tab-delimited or comma delimited ASCII text for the email addresses.  I do not know what would happen if you used Notepad to create the file.  You can easily create a trailing blank when generating an addressbook entry.  These usually don't cause a problem when sending via the dist. list.

It might... The trick would be to look at the file in a binary viewer of some kind and see if there's something superfluous there.

Sorry I can't be more specific about this - I use MailMerge quite often and haven't seen anything like this, so I don't have much I can suggest.

Cheers!
