We have a new phone system at work that will email voicemail messages to me as wave files. I can't open this file in pmail (xp 4.41) but if I bounce it to my yahoo account I can access it. In pmail I get:
"This message contains binary or non-textual data that cannot be previewed within Pegasus Mail.
Filename: VoiceMessage.wav
You can work with this file in the message reader's 'Attachments' page."
Yet it does not show the attachment. In the attachment window, I believe the data appears under the "Plain text" heading since that has data that starts like:
"UklGRqpyAABXQVZFZm10IBIAAAAHAAEAQB8AAEAfAAABAAgAAABmYWN0BAAAAHhyAABk

Any suggestions?

As it is a non-standard filetype, you need to register it with Pegasus Mail. Go to menu Tools/Options/Content viewers ADD type WAV. Let the options default to "Let Windows choose...."
Then restart Pegasus Mail, and reopen the message. Going to the attachment page, you should have some Windows App like Media Player startup and "play" the file.
Send me your email address and I will send you a test Windows file (chimes.wav) My email address is irelam@telus.net

I tried that, even tried associating wav to a specific program rather than "Let Windows choose....". To no avail. I wonder if it is the header of the email that is the problem. Under Attachments the only file listed is Plain text. In Raw View the email starts:

I've XXXX'd out a few things, but you get the idea.
yes according to the standard list by Microsoft at http://www.w3schools.com/media/media_mimeref.asp, the content-type line is supposed to read:
content-type audio/x-wav And the name= value is not required as it is specified on the content-disposition line. So can you make that change to the message?

How do I do that?
One thing that worked, but is cumbersome: I forwarded the email to myself with the setting "Start a new message with the messages attached." This way I get a proper wave attachment.
Also, Yahoo mail can read it, even if I "Forward the messages without editing (redirect, or "bounce")."
Charles
Try this. Go to Pegasus Mail menu and select Tools/Options/General Settings/Advanced Settings and set the number to a bigger number like 200 for Lines to scan for enclosures.
Martiin.

Didn't seem to work. This excerpt from the help file suggests something better probably wouldn't result, since I have been clicking on the attachments tab to see if there is anything: "Note that selecting the Attachments view in the message reader always does a full scan of the message looking for attachments and will find any there may be -- this option really only affects the likelihood of the attachment marker being displayed in the folder window."
Thanks for the idea though!
Is there someone to whom I could bounce this message to see if they can get it to work?
Charles
A I mentioned in an earlier posting, I will send you a Wav file message as a test if you want, and likewise you could send me your message, which I will treat with confidentiality.
Martin
I have mailed the user directly with the following message:
Just to let you know that the problem has been diagnosed, and a solution is being worked on by
David Harris. In the meantime there is a very simple bypass you can employ temporarily.
For these telephone messages do the following simple steps.
1. When looking at the message in folder list view, select the message.
2. right click and select message Properties.
3. Click the check box that is labelled "Contains data is in Multpart MIME format"
4. Click the OK button.
5. Now open the message and go to the attachments Tab, where you should see your WAV file listed. [8-|]
6. Select the WAV file and either Click the Open button, or double click the attachment.. You should
now have some audio utility invoked (Media Player etc). You can also Save the attachment to your
hard drive etc.
