As I see it there are two ways to move old mail into a separate Windows folder.  One is to move it over to a second dummy user, which I think is what Han is doing.  You can then add that user's mailbox to your folder list if you want to see the old stuff.  The other method is to create an Archive tree of public folders in a separate Win folder and move the old stuff there.  This gives a better folder display, but creates a Win file for every message, which seems very inefficient. The limitation of both methods is that you need to first create the destination folder and then move messages over to it one at a time (though you can save time with 'select all' if you have a steady hand on the mouse!).  I think this is why Han has to use PMRestArch - to avoid folder name conflicts.

This is really just a subset of the problem of sharing files between users, and as I have said, PM currently provides these two ways of doing it - display of another user's mail-box and creation of public folders.  I would like to know if David intends to improve either of these features in the near future, as both are a bit limited and tricky to use at present.

Over the years I have accumulated quite a large number of folders and "old mail" that, rather than dump to a text file, it would be quite handy to "archive" and remove from the default indexing at start-up and automatic listing in the folder view.

The way I'd envision it working is to create an archive section, pick the drive and location for the archive (not necessarily the Pegasus working drive), and then create, copy, and/or move individual folders and their messages into the archive.

This way if I need to pull up an old email record, I can do it from within Pegasus, click on Archive, find the folder (if I have to wait while it's mounted, that's fine..)...

You can get an approximation by creating a 'filing tray' called 'archive' (or whatever) and then moving folders with old material into it.  Peg should leave the tray closed unless you specifically open it.  I used to do this, but then decided that I didn't want to include all the old stuff in my monthly backup, which meant that I needed to get it out of the regular user Windows mail folder (directory).  For this, I had to make all the old Peg folders 'public' which is rather messy under the current system.  I am hoping that David will modernise the 'public' folders setup in Peg 5, as the current implementation is archaic (each Peg folder is a Win folder and each email message is a separate Win file).

Thanks - tho just getting it out of sight, while a step in the right direction, doesn't solve all the issues (as you noted).

However, while digging through the technical support section and earlier suggestions, I've discovered several others making similar requests, and David making mention last summer of consideration after the Mercury release. Such as that is, it appears it is neither a feature in a currently-available Pegasus, nor a unique (nor ignored) suggestion. Hence we should put it in the "not yet" category and all that it implies.

Use PMRestArch.exe  from http://www.lexacorp.com.pg That will backup your folders to a given directory, keeping folderid's unique. You can then mount that directory using "add mailbox to list"when needed.

After the copy you can decide to delete the original folders from your setup.
