Attachments not attaching, only an icon showing up

Though the specifics are different, it actually sounds as though the cause might be the same as the problem I've had over the past few days--which just got solved yesterday.  Now maybe it's not the same cause, but if you want to try, check out the thread I started about attachments (at the moment maybe 3 below yours).  Specifically, you might try downloading drtcp from dslreports (link in that thread) and setting your MTU options as are discussed there.  That MIGHT solve the problem--because it sounds like your attachments are fragmenting.  You can read the wikipedia entries about MTUs and MTU pathing and they'll glaze over your eyes.  But that drtcp executable sure cleared up the issue I was having (attachments not sending, stopping partially through), and it's very obvious how to use it (at least after reading that thread).  If you decide to try, at the very worst you can easily change your settings back afterward.

It appears that sometimes certain installations of Pegasus just has trouble sending email to certain addresses--and though they can email your brother, that doesn't necessarily mean email to you follows the same route--so it might be hitting a machine somewhere that's squawking at that MTU path setting.

On the other hand, I may be completely wrong, but at least I'm trying to help!

Hi,

Being a long-time user of Pmail, I have also set my parents up with it (v. 4.41, win xp). It's been working fine for about 6 months. Today they tried to email me some photos, but instead in the email attachments tab (I'm using pmail 4.41 too) all I got was an icon. The file they were sending was 67kb or something, but the attachment I received was 0.7kb which I assume was merely the size of the icon. Also had mum try and send me a small word doc, same thing, no attachment, but it looked like it was attached, filename etc showing up, but again 0.7kb filesize. see screengrab here;

I've had them send to a gmail account so I know it's not my Pmail screwing up the attachments (and I'm receiving from other people fine). No change. Icon, filename show up, but no attachment.

I've had them do an 'update' install of a freshly downloaded w32-441.exe

Still attachments are not coming through.

As a possible point of interest, they are also experiencing OLE Error 80010106, so I'm asking if any new software / hardware especially fax / printer stuff has been addded recently. But even still, odd that this could interfere with attaching files. They have a lot of guests at their place - could someone plugging in  a digital camera or memory stick have cause this OLE Error?

They've also recently installed "CA security center". I had them disable all the various parts (spam filter, virus filter, kiddie safe thing - all except the firewall) and still no change. Can a firewall potentially strip attachments from an outbound email?

Any ideas, or can I provide more information to help?

Regards,

JP

Do they have "Send attachments as separate messages" checked under "Tools" -> Options" -> "Sending mail"?

Do they have "Send attachments as separate messages" checked under "Tools" -> Options" -> "Sending mail"?

No, that wasn't checked, so attachments should have been combined. They've resolved the OLE Error by disabling some new Antivirus software, but the attachments still don't come through to me.

However, and this is even stranger. It appears they can send attachments to my brother (who lives with me and uses my internet gateway). He also uses PMail. And my brother can send them to me.

So Mum -> Brother -> Me works (all using pmail)

Mum -> Me does not work however.

Also Mum -> Mum (emailing to herself) does not work.

My parents installed Outlook Express today to deal with people who need attachments sent. I'll be visiting them for Christmas so hopefully can do a clean install then and fix the glitch.
