Folders not deleted from IMAPSUB.PM when deleted in Thunderbird

Heh, just decided to read the specs - and yeah, you're right. It seems the people who designed the specs are more concerned about the weird ways people may implement the underlying system rather than the IMAP protocol itself.

If somebody doesn't know how to implement a translation layer between a protocol and whatever storage system they're using, I seriously doubt they should be writing a mail server. I think the people who wrote the specs should've focused more on clarity rather than worrying about possible implementation quirks.

Hi,

I'm using Mercury/32 v4.52 with the MercuryI module, but I also experienced this issue with v4.01b.  When I delete a folder in Thunderbird (currently using version 2.0.0.9, but this has happened with every version since 1.5), it is removed from HIERARCH.PM but not from IMAPSUB.PM.  Thus, the folder reappears, but grayed out and unusable, the next time I restart TB.  The only way I've found to get rid of the folder is to manually edit the IMAPSUB.PM file.

Is this an issue with Mercury/32 or Thunderbird (I haven't tried any other client), or am I missing something?

Apologies for "bumping" the thread, but as no one has replied, I'm curious:  has anyone else experienced this issue?  Or, does anyone else use Thunderbird with the MercuryI module and definitely does NOT experience this issue?  If the latter, it may be something specific to my system....

I use Thunderbird with MercI and have noticed this behaviour occasionally.

Most of the time it works correctly but I have had to manually edit IMAPSUB.PM and/or HEIRARCH.PM a couple of times to fix this issue.

It has been rare enough, and I have been short of time to investigate further, so I put it down to cosmic rays and carry on. [H]

Interesting.  I don't delete folders often, but as far as I can remember, I have had to manually edit IMAPSUB.PM every single time.

I've had this problem, certainly at least once. I don't often delete folders but I don't think it was every time. I thought it was probably down to having the same account logged in from 2 machines at the same time (which I believe is not recommended, although it usually works), rather than being a Mercury/Thunderbird issue.

It's taken me a while, but this problem should now be fixed for v4.6.

Note that this particular area - what to do with entries in the subscription list - is one of the greyest areas of RFC3501 (which is altogether an extremely grey document). While on the surface, it may seem like "common-sense" to unsubscribe a folder when it's deleted, IMAP has different rules for common-sense from the rest of the world, and I'm not entirely confident that this change won't cause at least a small number of problems with particular IMAP clients.

Cheers!
