New Mail Folder Filter on Close

Rook, try going into CLASSIC mode.

In the thread I didn't see the contents of the actual filters (unless you've added them), so how can we tell if it should be triggered?

I am trying to filter the newmail filter on close to deposit anything with [PMAIL] in the subject line into the Pegasus Mail List folder, but according to System Messages, it never finds anything to trigger the filter.

Now I gather that it only filters on close *unread* messages, which is a nuisance in the preview pane, since messages I've looked at and those I haven't I want dropped into that folder.

BUT it doesn't move the unread messages in spite of how I set up the filter whether I look for [PMAIL] or PMAIL

So, I'm puzzled as to what's going on and why it won't filter.  And I suppose to add to the wish list I should post in that part of the forum my request "Please give the option to filter read and unread messages".

Read messages get moved quite happily on closing to the Main folder.

The new mail filter only works when opening the new mail folder and only works on unread mail.  The on close filters filter on both read and unread mail, however in the preview mode moving to another folder is not a close. You can also create a general rule set and attach it to the new mail folder to be used on closing.

OK, so I turned preview mode off set all messages to unread and still the system messages log says

Sat, 09:03:39    Newmail rule processing: No messages triggered any rules.

The filter says "If Subject contains PMAIL move to _PegasusMailingList

I applied the general rules on the newmail folder with the same rule and off they went.

Frustration is setting in here [:S]

Not sure what to tell you.  I created the following new mail folder close rule set and all the mail (read and unread) with PMail in the subject (including WinPMail) was move to the folder.

----------------------------------- winrulesa.pmc -------------------------------------

 NoDisplay:New mail closing filtering rules
If header "S" contains "PMAIL" Move "63E722D4:7334:FOL027C2"

---------------------------------------- end --------------------------------------------------

Are you sure you picked a good folder?

Edit -  Just finished testing, the [PMAIL] works as well.

Still won't do it  [*-)]

Still says no rules triggerd!

I spent  a bit more time at this ...

I deleted the filter altogether.

I changed the colour of the mails in the New Mail folder to Green

I added a filter on close move to folder if green

Still says no messages trigger the rule.

I almost begin to wonder if it's LOOKING at the new mail folder at ALL!

More testing needed!

Since I was using the new mail folder close rule with the example I provided I know it works on both the read and unread mail in the new mail folder.  Are you sure the target folder exists?  Can you open the winrulea.pmc file and post exactly what you have in the file for this rule?

Thanks Thomas ... I've double checked and triple checked this and it should work ... so I've got a new idea to try to do some debugging but it will have to wait until tomorrow and I'll track this down one way or another.!!!

Well -  i don't have priviledges to start a new topic yet - but I have a question on filtering.

I added a new user Steve
I then added a filter to forward any email addressed to steve @abcco.com to Steves pegasus account/

I used Header expressions and checked to search the following headers - From: To: CC: Reply To:

Now email comes in and some is forwarded and others aren't ?  I checked the headers and it clearly meets the rule to be forwarded, I even put it at the top so it would be one of the first emails to be forwarded

Any suggestions?
Rook

This does seem very similar to the problem I'm having ...

My new mail filter on open is working fine ... but filter on close is not.

To me, filter on close is really the important one because it can be automated and largely fits the way I read mail, particularly mail from mailing lists

Read the posts that interest me from the list, but filter all from the list into a folder ... I might be interested in the others later.

Are you actually opening and closing the folder or simply previewing it and the moving to another folder?  I've tested the on close new mail filter and they work as specified when closing a folder.

I am actually CLOSING the folder ... at least I think I am ...

I've turned off preview mode and changed folders

I've "closed all open trays" of which I have only 1.

How else can you "close" the newmail folder?

OK, now I've got it ... and it becomes useless for the way I work with mail.

If I go into classic mode instead of multipaned mode and close the newmail folder then, it does indeed filter on close.  But if I go back to multipaned even with preview off, it doesn't want to work for me.

I think think I need to find another way to achieve what I want to do because I don't want to work in classic mode!

Mine doesn't filter the mails after downloading the new mail, I didn't try to close and re-open the new mail.

(I haven't needed to do that with my existing forwarding filters)

New mail filters work when you receive new mail with focus on the new mail folder.
