Pegaus itself delete mails in folders
Have been running without Symantec email checking in 2 weeks now, but unfortunately it is the same, my folders are deleted from time to time.  PMI files are there, but PMMs end up with 1 or 2 messages.
Something is affecting the system.  How much free drive space is there?  Are you running anything at all that is accessing the Pegasus Mail files other than Pegasus Mail?  Might try turning off the drive write-behind caching as well.

I am using XP SP2 and Pegasus 4.41 from Jul 2006.

My problem is that it often does not load all mails in a folder. When clicking on a folder and choice an email somewhere down there is only ???? in from and to fields. Th eproblem is not every time, but from tim eto time, several times a week.

Another thing is that if I click on one folder and fast thereafter on another, like if you choiced the wrong one,

then the folders mails are gone. Simply the PMM file for this folder are empty!! (Pegasus did delete it)

The PMI file is there and shows all the mails but the PMM file are gone, or not gone, but do normally only content on email. All others are gone, and they cannot be recovered.

I guess that it has something with reading to memory to do. I am not a programmer, but if I click a folder and wait a long time to look into the mails it does not happen.

Can anyone help to solve this problem. I am not the only who has this problem, my friend does as well.

This is not at all common.  Do you have something like an anti-virus/spam application running here?  Is it checking the mail directories?  How exactly are you getting your mail?  IMAP4?  POP3?

Thanks for your reply.

I have a Lenovo Z61M, Intel Core2 T7200 2.00GHz, 1,99GHz 1Gb RAM, and Yes I am using Symantec, and it is set to Internet Email Account protect. But as far as I know it i sonly looking at the incoming mails. And it is not the incoming folder that gets empty. It happens when clicking on a folder read something and click on another folder. Then the last one get empty with only one mails, often the first mail in the folder.

I do also use PM’s Mail filtering Rules, but again it is for incoming only, I suppose.

I use POP3.

My friend’s problem is exactly as mine.

All the best

If the anti-virus software is accessing the Pegasus mail folders and directories anything can happen.  This is especially true when using Symantec.  Trun it off or tell it not to scan nany of the directories that are used by Pegasus Mail nd see if the problem continues.  FWIW, yuo and your friend seem to both have the same problem with some sort of external application fighting WinPMaiul for access to it's mail folders.  This can cause mail to be deleted and whole folders to be trashed.  FWIW, I simply not longer use Symantec on any system not will I even attempt to fix one until Symantec software is complete removed.  It's that bad.

I can stop Symantec, but 1) I have used Symantec nearly as long as I used PM and 2) Does symantec continue to se or do any to the different folder after a mail has been downloaded? I did a backup, stopped all Symantec services as suggested. And the problem is still there. I have Word documet with screen shoot, you can see if you wish, it shows the folder detaisl before and after when it is crashed and the from and too fields ust have ????. Just need an email addres

Yes, Symantec's auto protect grabs any file as it's opened by another application and checks it for a virus.  WinPMail must open a folder in the exclusive use mode so in this case there is a fight between Symantec and WinPmail for access to the file.  You can tell Symantec to ignore the WinPmail folders 9including the Windows temp folders also used by WinPmail) and then then you'll not have this problem.

I definitely do not need to see a Word document with a screen shot (they are huge) but if you could post it here maybe it would help.  That said, I'm not all that sure you can really turn off all of Symantec's interference.  Remember though, what you are seeing is not usual and in fact I've never have see anything like this even with Symantec.  This of course may be caused by something else being done by a newer version of Symantec, I do not know.

Here they are, you should get 3 files, if it is working, Pegasus missing mails.zip, Pegasus missing mails2.zip, Pegasus missing mails3.zip

Have been running without Symantec email checking in 2 weeks now, but unfortunately it is the same, my folders are deleted from time to time.  PMI files are there, but PMMs end up with 1 or 2 messages.
