can I use Mercury to fix an MS Exchange problem?

You can't change the subject line, this filter only adds a header, it cannot replace a header.  With what you said you should have a new header in your message showing test: hallo.

You also cannot at this time move messages via filtering to a specific folder.  What you can do is add a specific header to the message like "SPAM: True" and then have Outlook filters looking for this specific header in the headers to move it to a folder.  This type of filtering is available in Outlook 2002 I assume this is available in your version of Outlook.

Hello all,

My company, heavily MS oriented, is running on MS exchange and MS outlook.

I would like to use a lot of filters to manage my incoming email better but unfortunately there is not enough space per user (apparently a system default) to use the amount of filters I require. Beside of that it's hard to create the right filters in outlook/exchange.

My idea is as follows:

Use an applicatin like Mercury/32 on my local cpmputer and gather all emails (and calendar) items to Mercury/32, process filters and rules and than pass the information to my local outlook2003 client. Vice versa email could be passed via Mercury/32 are directly passed into exchange.

As you might understand I have no support form the central IT department so it's a fully 'local sollution'

Would this work? If not do you have other ideas

Thanks Jan-Willem

Yes, should not be all that much of a problem.  You would download via POP3 from the Exchange host using MercuryD to a local Mercury/32 account and then connect to the account via Outlook using IMAP4.  You would be still connecting directly to your calendar as normal.  Mercury/32 would do the anti-spam via Spamhalter and Content Control.  You could send this off to another local account that you could also access via IMAP4.

Hi Thomas,

That basicaly works: Thanks

I see the POP3 client poll my pop server and than than outlook conects to Mercury using IMAP.

Now something else (And I feel stupid to ask [:$])

I created a rule (Configuration>filtering rules>edit global rules>headers) and ticket "Subject" so it should just look in the subject. At [Contains this text] I entered "test".

The action I selected is: [Add a header to the message] and att [Parameter]  I set "test:hallo" (Also tried other combinations like ""test:hallo"" "test: this is a test")

When I send an email to myself I would expect that Mercury is replacing/adding "hallo" in the subject.[:(]  wrong... It doesn't

I know it's possible but appearntly I'm not clever enough to find out how [:S]. Can you help me on this?

Another issue I now stumble into is that when I reply to incoming mesages outlook tries to reply via my local running Mercury system and that was not expected.[:'(]

And one other questioin already further down the process: would it be able to place incoming messages based on subject and/or body to subfolders of the IMAP directly?

Keep in mind that the reason of trying this all is that I can not make the aquired number of rules in outlook itself.

Thanks Jan-Willem
