Hello,
I am a new user of Pegasus. I installed version 4.41 today. I then downloaded
all the e-mails that
had been stored on the server at my ISP. The 1st minor problem I had
was it wouldn’t download
some of the e-mails with attachments. Most were ok, just a few wouldn’t move. I
was getting an
error message something like it was timing out, so I changed the default
timeout for network
connections to a longer time, but it didn’t make any difference.
Then
I started to make subfolders to put the e-mails in. I started a new folder tree
& then added a
subfolder to it. That seemed to work, so I tried to make a 2nd
folder tree. But the tree just came as
a new folder in the original tree under ‘My mailbox’ with the same name as the
new folder in the 2nd
tree. I thought that I had done it wrong, so I tried again with the same
result. Now I have 4 identical
folders, one in the 2nd tree where I wanted it & the other 3 in
the original tree. After making the 1st
one I moved the e-mails into it that I wanted there. When the other 3 appeared,
they had copies of
the same e-mails that I had moved into the 1st folder in the new
tree. So I tried to delete the 3 extra
folders that I didn’t want & was told I couldn’t.
I then deleted the messages in one of those folders & found that the
messages disappeared from all
4 at once. Then I tried again to delete the folders. I am a bit hazy here what
the exact sequence of
events is, but I started getting error messages from ‘Pegasus Mail for Windows’
saying that Pegasus
Mail for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. Then when I
restart Pegasus I get
a notice that ‘Mailbox is locked’. The first time I got this I closed
everything & restarted the computer.
Then I still got the message, so I pressed continue to see if it would work.
When It opens up now, it
goes to My mailbox, but when I try to open New mail, I get the mcsft error
message saying that it
has encountered a problem & has to close. Sometimes immediately & sometimes
after some or
all of the messages have loaded.
Also
during this process, the 4 folders that are the same name, renamed themselves
to
‘P94B9A5Z.MAI & placed a folder on the desktop. Inside the folder is a file
named: COUNTERS.PM.
Each time I try to delete these folders I get another error message with
several possibilities & then it
says that: ‘You may need to remove the directory manually using Windows
Explorer or a similar file
management utility.’
I only have one user & e-mail address set up. I have 1440 messages in the New
mail folder that I
want to go through & delete some & organize the rest. Also, before I
downloaded the e-mails from
my ISP, I changed the location that I store the e-mails in. I couldn’t tell if
it worked properly, but
when I go to the location that I told Pegasus to store the e-mails in, there
are a lot of files of various
sizes, the majority of which are a bunch of letters & numbers with
the extension .CNM. Does
this sound like stored e-mails? There is also a subfolder here called RmtFiles that
is empty.
I
am using WinXP home, service pack 2, with 1GB of ram. I am a little behind in
updates, don’t
know if it has any relevance to the current problem.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
mailuser
