I haven't used OL2007 but the earlier versions insisted on storing 'Sent' mail locally, so yes I think lookOut is your problem [:)]

Hello,

I am new to Mercury 32, and was hoping to get some advice.

We have recently implemented  the server at home, as we have 1 email address via our ISP, that we wanted to share with 2 computers - one being Windows Vista, and anther one being an iMac with 10.5.2.

We are using the IMAP module to share emails coming through, with one local user only being authenticated, and it appears to be working ok.

The only problem/ question I have is how do we know when an email has been successfully sent? From what I can tell, the 'sent' messages sit at the Client, and Mercury doesn't seem to keep the actual sent messages, in the same way it keeps messages in the Inbox?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

This is a client side issue. You will need to set your mail clients to store the "Sent Items" folder on the IMAP server (and probably "Drafts" & "Trash" as well). Mercury has no problem doing this, but some clients have issues with this type of setup so YMMV.

If this is not possible, you could also set up another mailbox (another 'user' on Mercury) to archive outgoing mail, with an "Always" trigger in the "Outgoing Filter rules" to "Copy" to the Archive user. In your clients, this could then be setup as another IMAP mailbox so you could see sent mail from either machine.

Thank you for your response. I will give that a go.

I run Mercury on my main PC, and Thunderbird as a client on that and the other one, using IMAP. I send mail from the client to my ISP's relay host, without using Mercury to send it; Thunderbird puts a copy in the Sent folder which IMAP saves in the Mercury mail folders - nothing special was necessary to achieve this. I tried sending mail using Mercury, but ISPs such as AOL recognise my IP as residental and refuse the connection.

What client are you running? You might have a problem if the clients on the Vista and Mac boxes keep the sent mail in different folders - although I think that would just mean that both folders were visible on both clients, each one containing mail sent from only one machine.

This is because you were using MercuryE for direct SMTP delivery.

You should use MercuryC to send outbound mail from Mercury via your ISP's relay host (as you currently do from your client).

That way all your mail passes through Mercury.

Thanks for your responses. We are using Mac 10.5.2 and Outlook 2007...so that's probably why its not working. I might setup another user as suggested above, to copy the emails sent...
