Configuring Pegasus for use with WildBlue - now a problem with sending

Firstly - when you wrote your instructions for SMTP, you gave (b)

for STARTTLS, and (c) SMTP via TLS.  I assumed that I would do either

one or the other, and chose to do (b) STARTTLS.  Am I OK there?

Correct.

Next - your answer about turning on ESTMP authorization in the

security tab of my SMTP setup -- I cannot find anything about ESMTP in

Pegasus' security tab on the SMTP setup.  Where would I get to this?

Use Tools | Internet Options | Sending (SMTP) and edit the POP3 definition.  Select the "Security" tab and select one of the options  for authorization and enter tyhe username and password or rthe POp3 definition.

We've been using Pegasus Mail for several years, but we recently had to change internet service providers. Now we have WildBlue internet service, and I've been trying to do network configuration in Pegasus to work with WildBlue's email server. NO SUCCESS YET.

Does anyone have any guidance on how to do this?

I have enabled WildBlue for POP3; then I went into Pegasus, specified the new email address, specified WildBlue's POP3 mail server (pop.gmail.com), specified WildBlue's SMTP mail server (smtp.gmail.com), and specified my username and password. Saved, then told Pegasus to check POP3 host for mail.  The message in lower left said it was connecting to pop.gmail.com, then said Done -- and no mail brought in.

 What am I doing wrong?

If these server names are correct it looks like they are really GMail servers.

(a) -POP3-

  Server host name: pop.gmail.com
  User name: <your_user_name>@gmail.com
  Password: <your_password>
  Server TCP/IP port: 995
  SSL/TLS: via direct SSL connect
Enable server certificate fingerprint tracking: checked

(b) -SMTP STARTTLS -

  Server host name: smtp.gmail.com
  Server TCP/IP port: 587
  SSL/TLS: via STARTTLS
Enable server certificate fingerprint tracking: checked
SMTP Authentication: Login to the SMTP server using POP3
username/password (the GMAIL-POP3-definition has been chosen)

(c) - SMTP via SSL -

  Server host name: smtp.gmail.com
  Server TCP/IP port: 465
  SSL/TLS: via direct ssl connection
Enable server certificate fingerprint tracking: unchecked
SMTP Authentication: Login to the SMTP server using POP3
username/password (the GMAIL-POP3-definition has been chosen)

Thanks, Robert.  Yes, WildBlue mail uses Google's Gmail servers and their user interface on webmail looks just like Gmail's except for the WildBlue customization.

Anyways, thanks for the config info.  Looks complicated, I'll give it a try.  Is everything you list above editable under the Network Configuration option window?

Thanks,  TomG

Robert -

I just tried it, had to fuss with it a bit, and got it to work after a few tries -- THANK YOU!

The only thing I had to do differently was to make my user name girotti@wildblue.net (my regular email address, instead of girotti@gmail.com).

Thanks again!

Retrieving mail went fine, but the first time I tried to send, I got a mail delivery failure message, and below is what came up in the window>  Sounds like it wants some kind of authentication?

What now?

Delivery has failed on the enclosed message for the following

reasons reported either by the mail delivery system on the mail

relay host or by the local TCP/IP transport module:

You need to turn on the ESMTP Authorization in the security tab of yuo SMTP setup.

-SMTP STARTTLS -

  Server host name: smtp.gmail.com
  Server TCP/IP port: 587
  SSL/TLS: via STARTTLS
Enable server certificate fingerprint tracking: checked
SMTP Authentication: Login to the SMTP server using POP3
username/password (the GMAIL-POP3-definition has been chosen)

(c) - SMTP via SSL -

  Server host name: smtp.gmail.com
  Server TCP/IP port: 465
  SSL/TLS: via direct ssl connection
Enable server certificate fingerprint tracking: unchecked
SMTP Authentication: Login to the SMTP server using POP3
username/password (the GMAIL-POP3-definition has been chosen)

Sorry I'm such a dolt on this...

Firstly - when you wrote your instructions for SMTP, you gave (b) for STARTTLS, and (c) SMTP via TLS.  I assumed that I would do either one or the other, and chose to do (b) STARTTLS.  Am I OK there?

Next - your answer about turning on ESTMP authorization in the security tab of my SMTP setup -- I cannot find anything about ESMTP in Pegasus' security tab on the SMTP setup.  Where would I get to this?

First Point: STARTTLS is ok.

Second Point: You have to enable SMTP Authentification.

Either with an existing POP3 account or your username and

password.

Thanks for responding, tigershark.

When I followed the previous suggestion for setting up SMTP, I had checked the box on the SMTP Security tab for:

SMTP Authentication: Login to the SMTP server using POP3

However, I had not filled in the box for "From this POP definition:"

After your suggestion about using an existing POP3 account, I filled in the box, tried sending an email, and voila, it worked.

Thanks very much
