Sending clickable links in Rich text format
I agree that in an HTML editor, the only way is to create a link, but why does pmail automatically concert it to a clickable link when rich text is switched off.
In plain text, PM recognizes links beginning 'http://' and makes them clickable. (Also does similar with email addresses.)

In HTML (also called rich text) it renders what is there.  If the HTML does not contain properly coded links then you won't see any.

Does anyone have this problem.

If I type a full URL into an outgoing message when Rich Text is switched off, it appears at the recipients end as a clickable link.

But If I send in rich text format, the same URL typed in is not clickable at the recipients end.

If I use the "insert link" button, and enter text and a URL it works, but if I insert an image instead - not clickable.

I'd appreciate any light that can be shed on this.

Cheers

Steve

Same behavior here, Steve. I've read the help explanation, and it can be worked around, but it seems so counterintuitive. I'll be interested in the comments addressing your inquiry.

I've not been able to find anything in Help addressing this issue. I searched for "Link" and the only references I found were relating to links in INCOMING mail, not outgoing. Looks like I'm going to have to dig deeper.

BTW, the mail in my copyself folder exhibits the same problems as the one that goes out. I've sent to people who use OE, MM, Outlook, Webmail, Thunderbird and they all report the same thing.

Odd thought, have you looked at the 'raw' view of each message, may give a clue as to why you are experiencing the trouble with clickable links.

As 'rich' text the emails seem to be HTML format you should be able read nicely in a browser.

How about this link, does it work?

This is HTML the only way you can get an HTML link to work is insert a link.;

FWIW, I'm not even too sure how I can do it here since the link button is greyed out.

I agree that in an HTML editor, the only way is to create a link, but why does pmail automatically concert it to a clickable link when rich text is switched off. I thought that if it could do it in simple text, it could do it in rich text too. Looks like I may just have to live with it.

EDIT: Just tried outlook express (in html mode), and if I type in a url, as soon as I hit a space, or enter, it converts it to a clickable link.

But - the point still remains that in rich text, if I insert a link using a picture instead of text, it is not clickable. I've tried using .gif, .jpg and .bmp images, and none of them end up clickable at the receivers end. The image is there, but not the link.

Here's the raw view once received....

<div align="left"><img src="cid:1229500.1216018536.28617" mce_src="cid:1229500.1216018536.28617" width="32" height="32" border="0" alt="graphic"/>

No sign of a link.

Couple of weeks?  Couple of months?  No idea really.  There are about 10-11 fixes, upgrades, things that David said he needed to get done before the release.
