Resize Compose New Message Box.

Thanks for the "solution" which had been in front of me all along for these years of use. So... you can teach a not too old dog some new tricks:-)

Thanks again.

Greetings.

A search of the forum has not yielded a result. Is there a way of resizing the new message compose box and keeping it "sticky"? If I maximise the folders menu then the new message compose box is also maximised and I do not want that!

I would prefer to have the folders maximised and the new box retain my settings, which provide for a larger box. I find the default(?) size too small and just not deep enough, having to resize for every email I compose.

Possible? Welcome any feedback.

Maximize is all or none.  You cannot have only some windows maximized.

I would agree that this behavior is inconsistent with how other windows in Pegasus Mail behave.  My folders window and message reader window retain the previously set size when opened, but the new mail window always opens in the same, too small size.  It's can be especially when quoting a message in a reply.

It would be nice if the new message window would open with the size of the last, closed new message window.

Yes it would be great if the new message window retained its size setting independantly of the folder window being maximised or otherwise.

A "wish list" for me:-)

With the compose window open, have you tried message / save window size  ?

One of the ongoing problems with a program that is nearly 20 years old is that it carries around a huge amount of history with it. The apparently inconsistent behaviour of the message editor window is entirely deliberate and historical. Back in the Windows 3.1 days, the style guidelines made it clear that windows where there could be multiple instances should be staggered and use a fixed, supposedly "ideal" size when they were opened. I did that, and that of course created an expectation of behaviour over time: that's another problem with being around for a long time - people expect the program to carry on working the way it always has, even if the world changes and new user expectations move on. Indeed, I'd say this is one of my biggest problems these days: making the program behave like a "modern" application often involves changing behaviour that many of my users have become used to over a very long time, and that's exasperating when it happens to you. Trying to balance these two different sets of expectations can be very difficult.

Anyway, that's an aside. You've always been able to set the default size of the message editor window by choosing "Save window size" from the "Message" menu (although this only saves the size, not the position, for the same historical reason mentioned above). In v4.5, however, I finally decided that history only goes so far, and have completely removed this option: the message editor now automatically remembers both its size and position from instance to instance. And just to pre-empt the inevitable question, yes, v4.5 *really* is close now (no more than a couple of weeks maximum).

Cheers!

Hey, I (re)learned my new thing for the day!  I've jump between various email clients so much that I'd forgotten all about the "Save window size".  Annoyance solved for me.

Thanks for the info (and, as always, the product), David!
