Problems with identites and signatures

Thanks for clearing that up but yes, that's exactly what 40tude does, just check it out.

OK, my standard identity has a default signature that is visible at the

bottom of the window when I'm composing a new window. BUT in the editor

window right of the checkboxes it says: no signature.

Now when I switch to another signature in this dropdown menu it is not

displayed at the bottom of the composed message nor is it send. How come?

If you are inserting a signature at start up of a message then the signature will be inserted and therefore a signature is set to not be inserted  at the end via the "None".  When you change to a different signature is has no effect on the previously inserted signature and cannot be inserted at that time.  That said, I was sure I got the different signature when I changed identities and I would have expected the signature to be added on sending.

MMh, seems a bit inconvenient to me. I have one identity that has 3 signatures related to certain topics. Now when I set one as a default it's automatically listed at the bottom of the compose window the moment I open it but I cannot switch to another one. Why is that? As a workaround I have to select no default sig and then I can add the one I wanna use each time manually but it's not displayed in the compose window. It's a bit confusing.

I open it but I cannot switch to another one. Why is that?

Because that identity is set to only put the signature in at the start of the message.  It's been entered and if you were to change the signature then you would get a different one at the end. The message then would have two different signatures unless you manually removed one.  If you were to change the identity though then you would get the signature of that identity added IF it were not set to add it at the start of the message.  You would have to manually delete the original signature.

How would you code to allow the signature to be changed in the editor is you were to change the text that was already entered?  It's next to impossible without removing all of the text in the editor and starting from the beginning.  FWIW, you can always have a default signature set but it will not be added until the message is sent to the queue.

Another reason for me being confused was this inconsistency: when having a default

signature set and automatically attached to the end of the compose

window the signature pulldown menu says 'none'.

Well, unfortunately I'm no programmer so I don't know anything about feasibility but I kinda expected the signature indicator '-- ' (dash, dash, blank) to be mandatory and unique to a mail that has signatures. Therefore switching the sig from the pulldown menu would replace whatever is below this with the text of the newly selected sig. I don't know how they do it but my free newsreader 40tude Dialogue does this on the fly in it's compose window.

You mean to say after you have put some text in the editor and then want to change signatures to something else  it will remove the first and put in the second?  FWIW, the "-- " is not mandatory in a signature,  Some people use it, most do not.
