Mercury crashes when selecting 'manage local users' even in safe mode

Ok, Thomas, that was it! Thank you very much! [:D]

I don't know why I left this field empty. I think because the docs say somthing about PMail and I thought this would only have to be set if I would plan on using PMail which I am not. The issue is solved than. Thanks again.

Hey there,

trying to use mercury but to no avail. After reading almost every crash related entry in this forum I figured I just boot into safe mode of WinXP and try running only Mercury.

As soon as I click on 'manage local users' Mercury crashes. I have made a series of screenshots, that shows the crash.

Even if I turn off all the daemons it still happens.

I am at a loss here as to what to try next. Maybe you have an idea?

As an alternative: How can I manually add/edit users?

Trackning errors in Mercury when running in safe mode is maybe not such a good idea as it first might seem. You will eliminate most external factors that could interfere with the program, but at the same same you may stop the system from loading OS resources that Mercury depend on.

Try running the program in normal mode and let us know what happens. It would be a good idea to re-install Mercury first in case some files have been damaged. Don't use any daemons for this test. Please mention any other software that's running on the system that you suspect might interact with Mercury.

Even if I turn off all the daemons it still happens.

I suspect the the mail directory path is invalid.  Check the setting in Configuration | Mercury core |  General "Local mailbox directory path"  It should be something like c:\mercury\mail\~n and the Mercury/32 user should have all rights to this directory and subdirectories.

The users are held in a file called pmail.usr in the top of the mail directory and each user has their own unique subdirectory.

Hey Rolf, thanks for your insights.

I already reinstalled Mercury 3 times and  I only took the measure to test it in safe mode because no matter what I did in normal mode the same error always happened (and still does). Since a lot of threads suggest that I try to disable the antivirus program (which I did) I thought I'd try safe mode + networking enabled because this should elimintate any conflicting process. Now on to the things that Thomas suggests. I'll be back to report on my progress.
