Configuring Mercury

Depends on your smarthost. Some allow other domain names, some require them to be set up and 'allowed' first (gmail), some will refuse altogether.

I am having problems configuring Mercury. I can't send or receive mail externally. I have read tons of walkthroughs and posts, but I still can't figure it out, so sorry if this is a repeat. Instead of trying to post tons of information, I will start out slow. First I want to get mercury E working. Everytime I try to send e-mail MercuryE says that it has resolved the MX for "domain" and it is connecting to an ip address, but connection always fails.

I am using mercury/32 v. 4.62

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My configurations are as follows:

 --Mercury Core Module--

<--General Tab-->

Internet name for this system: Mydomain.net (i.e. I have a registered domain with a webserver running off of the same comp.)

 Brodcast notifications for normal mail (if supported); send copies of all errors to the postmaster; and change file ownership to recipient (if supported): are the only checked options.

Everything else on this tab is default.

<--Mail Queue-->

Everything is default on this tab.

<--local domains-->

My Domain                  www.mydomain.net

My Domain                 192.168.0.X

MyDomain                  ExternalP(XX.XX.XXX.XXX)

Localhost                    127.0.0.1

* I'm almost positive that I don't have this tab configured properly.

<--Groups--><--Files--><--Reporting--><--Advanced--><--Policy-->

All of these tabs are default

--MercuryE End-toEnd Smtp client configuration--

Identify myself as: www.mydomain.net

Poll: 15 seconds

TCP/IP timeout: 60 seconds

Max. Delivery Threads: 10

Name Servers: ISP DNS (I have my ISP's DNS here in typical format XX.XX.XX.XXX)

DNS timeout: 20

Retries:4

Honour Requests for Transcript generation is checked.

 Thanks for any help.

always fails.

If you do not have a fixed IP address most likely the server is rejecting  your connection.  Also it's possible your ISP is doing port 25 blocking. Use MercuryC instead and use the ISPs SMTP host as a relay host.

Edit:  BTW, you really should provide all real data, you are not really hiding anything since this will be in all your mail messages anyway.

<--local domains-->

My Domain                  www.mydomain.net

[/quote]Probably should be mydomain.net as this tells Mercury the domains that are local that it will be handling mail for.

ok, I changed www.mydomain.net to mydomain.net. Also, I do not have a fixed IP, but I do have a domain name and am using dyndns. the name server that I have been using is via comcast. does dyndns have a dns address that I should be using instead?

Your connection will be getting rejected because you have a dynamic ip address (esp. in the comcast range!).

You will have to get a static ip if you want to send directly, or use MercC and relay through a smarthost.
