I have used Pegasus manu years and like it. Lately my system has started to cause me problems with attachment and emails not being readable for some recipitents and dispite having tried to fix it (incl som great tips from this forum) I continue ro experience problems from time to time which is very annoying.

I am tempted to re-install the system since everything worked very well up until a few months ago.

 Two questions:

1. What would you suggest - reinstalling the official version, the beta (is it stable enough) or should a wait for a new official version (and if so when could that be ?).

2. Also - if I install the beta can I do that as an "upgrade" just running the install program and installing it over the old one or is it necessary to first deinstall the old one before installing the new one !?

I would appreciate your comments on this!

I'd go with the PB1, I've used it for months and it's stable.  There are a couple of glitches that do not affest normal operation.

Install as an upgrade.

That said, your problem sounds more like either a system problem or some problem in the WinPMail setup files.  A reinstall as an upgrade fixes nothing of that since it does not affect any of your setup or data at all.  If you want to start all over with your current setup the I'd exit WinPMail and then delete (rename/move) the pmail.ini, state.pmj, desktop.pm*, folstate.pm, hierarch.pm.  Now when you run WinPMail it will start as a new user without affecting any of your data files and folders.  If you are using trays, identities, etc they will all be gone.

Edit: You might want to try installing to an entirely different directory as a new install and then just copy your folders, addressbooks, POP3/SMTP, etc  without any of the setup files mentioned above to see if this fixes your problem.  It's a lot easier and you will still have the old setup to fall back on.

I would appreciate your comments on this!

Thomas!

Thanks for suggestions!

Do I understand you correctly that I can download the beta, run install, choose another directory (like for example c:\PMAILNEW) and then get the new Beta up and running in parallell with the old installation I have? Does this mean that I can run them in parallell - if so that would be the best option since then I can test the new one, make sure that fixes the problems but continue to use my present older version in parallell !???

Exactly.  Of course if you copy the data to the new one it will not stay in sync with the old one.  If you use pconfig and point the new one at the old mailbox directory though you can run against the same data structure, just not at the same time.
