Mercury User password

If it occurs again you can turn on session logging in the Merc POP3 server module.

This will give you a complete copy of the transaction between Peg & Merc including the name & password sent.

Hi,

I don't know if this is a problem to anyone else, but it's to me an achilles heel. When one morning i tried to check both mail and send mail i got an error, the name was familiar in Mercury, but either the name or the password was wrong. So i went to the password field in both Mercury and Pegasus and changed it several times but with no effect. I made a new user and gave it a password and tried that, that worked fine. The pop3 settings are ok then... Strangely i am now trying to delete my account (after i copy the dir ofcourse) and make it again. My heel is that when putting a new password in the new user field in Mercury, there is no confirmation if the password is identical. Maybe a check from within Pegasus to Mercury to see if the settings are correct????

I hope you understand what i mean...

Thanks.

Anne

Update: Did what i said but i had no succes... Still cannot pop3 my mail, still getting the error message that i am known but there is a password or email adres typo. Grrrrr.

It's very easy to verify that the password has been saved correctly in Mercury. Go to the mail folder for the user and open the PASSWD.PM file. This is a plain text file and the POP3 password is on the POP3_access line.

Could it be that there in fact is a problem with the name? Does it contain any non-standard character (other than A-Z, 0-9, hyphen, underscore)?

Thanks Rolf, i really did not know that. But it is still very weird if i am 100% sure that the password i put in Mercury is exactly the same as in Pegasus, and when i hit the dl/ul globe i get the error. I tried it over twenty times. Later, when i sended from a gmail account a testmail it suddenly appeared in the inbox, so it works fine. Then it is still very odd when i hit that globe sign (ul/dl) i get the error earlier. By the time i got the sended mail and i hit the globe it was fine!!!

VERY STRANGE AND ANOYING i think.

But Rolf, thanx.
