Trouble connecting Mercury with Outlook

I figured it out. Rolf, thank you for all you help. Regards Erik.

I figured it out. Rolf, thank you for all you help. Regards Erik.

I try to connect my Outlook 2007 with Mercury, but no look. I am running XAMPP. For Outlook does the incoming and out going server have to be localhost or is it the IP address. Also do I need to configure anything else in Mercury. When I do test on Mercury everything works fine. I have created email accounts in Mercury already. Any help would be appreciated.

If you run Outlook on the same computer as Mercury you can use localhost or 127.0.0.1 as server address, otherwise use hostname or IP address.

Check the console Windows in Mercury to see if there is any trace of your connection attempts. Make sure to write down any error messages you get.

If there is no connection at all start by making sure you have no firewall software active that might block the mail ports (25, 110, 143). To find out exactly what happens from the client's point of view you can connect with Telnet to the server. Open a command window and enter "telnet <hostname> 25" for SMTP (hostname could be for instance localhost or IP address).

I still can get it to work:

I have made sure that McAfees Firewall and windows firewall is allowing all the ports.  I looks as thought both the POP3 and STTMP Server are working (Current Status = Ready). I can send emails from Postmaster to new user, I see the emails in the newuser folder inside Mercury.

When I test Outlook 2007 in says it has logged into POP3 "Complete", but then it says "Send test e-mail message: None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server".

I have both the incoming and out going server as "localhost". The  POP3 server is on port 110 and the STTP port is 25.

Do I need to configure the Mercurys POP3 and STTP Server? I am sure it is something simple. My email are setup admin@localhost (no .com) in Outlook. I am new to this so,  Thanks in advance. Erik

Check the console windows in Mercury to see if a connection has been made. If it has, you can switch on session logging in MercuryS and MercuryP and make another try to see the entire "conversation" between Outlook and Mercury. (Remember so switch it off again afterwards, though.)

POP3 can be used only for receiving messages, not for sending, so the message from Outlook is not related to the POP3 session.

Default configuration for MercuryS and MercuryP is probably OK, but you should make sure that the Local domains section in Core configuration is properly filled in. Check the help text to find out what it should look like.

Other than that we need to see the contents of your mercury.ini file to be able to comment on settings.
