receive mail from other mail server (yahoo,hotmail....) .using mercury

In order to help we really need a lot more info.

1.  Are you using XAMPP to do this?

2.  Do you have a fixed IP address and host name?  If so what is it?

3.  Do you have a router?  Can it do network address translation (port forwarding)?  If you what is the IP address of the Mercury/32 system.

I have a website (which is phpfox) that uses either send-mail or SMTP to send out mail or receive mail. Currently, I'm using xampp as my web-server that already comes equip with mercury/32. The problem is I don't know what I'm doing when I'm configuring it. I was looking for tutorial on how to properly setup mercury/32 and sometime in the feature tweak it when I knew what I was doing.

My website domain is missinlinkradio.com or 72.229.143.176 -- I'm behind a router which give this computer the unique IP address of 192.168.1.XX

What I'm looking for is for somebody to explain the fundamental in lamest terms as to what I need to do or what direction I need to be heading in.

I'm not sure what they do with this XAMPP package but they sure must do something strange since we get these sort of questions all the time.  Don't they provide a tutorial?

It's a lot easier to forget about the Mercury that comes with the XAMPP package (delete it) and just install Mercury v4.62 from http://www.pmail.com and follow the installer directions and answer the questions.  At least then you'll know what the various parts of the program does.  Would not hurt to read the Mercury manual that comes with the program and then come back here for answers to those things you do not understand.

I also advice you to do a separate Mercury installation thru the mercury-installer. Then you can always copy the mercury-install dir over xampp/MercuryMail. You don't need to do that though, because you can configure xampp for where to look for mercury (localhost or even a remote mail-server; we use another server in our network with mercury installed).

Two things:

1. You cannot really control Mercury through xampp-control, but you can see if it has been started.

2. Xampp cannot install mercury as a service (on windows) so you will have to that yourself (we use NT Wrapper Manager Light; is freeware) for that.

Good luck,

Rui

PS: we are quite satisfied with xampp

So I have joomla and xammp and I have it sending emails via the mercury send mail and via outlook express on the server however I can not get mail out via joomla. I have tried almost anything under the sun as well as I can not find any logs to look at.

Does anyone have a nickle version as how to config joomla to be able to send mail?
