Spam, ipadresses and a black list

I think i might done this. I added two spam options, zen.spamhaus.org and bl.spamcop.net

Both are active at this time. The error above was neglected and the two test descriptions i made (very far earlier) earlier, were deleted. Both options are here and i'll see later if it works. Now it says:

Wed, 20:07:22 SpamHalter 4.4.0 started
Wed, 20:07:22 ClamWall 1.3.0.95 started
Wed, 20:07:22 GrayWall 1.1.0.117 started
Wed, 20:07:23 Program started

So i'll wait for the first idiot to come by ((-:

Thanks again...

Anne

I did a test from spamhouse.org and after some time i got a message back saying it worked. The other i have to check still.

It's not that hard, i did install spamhalter in Mercury but that program gave the error  that it did not work. I do not know where to put an adres of a blacklist but i'll look for that too. At this time i shut that down.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hello friends,

I have a problem that i can resolve myself but not that fast as it progresses in time. In Mercury i can add ipadresses to the 'not allowed' part of my blacklist section in SMTP, but as a spammer tries to mail me, the admin or my daughter (both me and the admin i had the name changed, so not getting spam there at this time) it leaves a ip adres behind from where the mail was send. I put that in the 'not allowed' section and hopefully there's no more spam from that adres. I don't know how long spammers use such an adres for sending spam around the world, but there must be a list where ip adresses are noted down for us to copy and paste in the 'NOT ALLOWED' list. I was thinking the big mailboys like GMAIL have a neat button [THIS IS SPAM] and it would be nice to have this too, but they must have a system that puts the ipadres in a list where spam has no life! I would like to know if there's such updated list available or ranges if anyone knows???

Thanks

Anne

[EDIT] I found a site where some guy is doing the same thing. Pity it only works for him.

http://www.unixhub.com/block.html    Go see and compare to the possibility of spam you receive.... I found already 1 Japanese spammer after five minutes reading. I put his adres already in the block list.

It's info is a bit old, but i think i'm going to email him and ask for an update.

Way too much trouble.  I use the SpamHaus and SpamCop blacklists to block the IP addresses of known spam sites.  These blacklists are very reliable and have a extremely low false positive rate.  I tested these for about a year by just tagging and filtering to the spammer account.  There were zero false positives during the test period.

Thanks Thomas for such short notice, i was wondering about the same thing but i was not sure if it was active. I know there are a lot of switches in Mercury, but could you give me a simple check to see if i activated it or not?

It's hard for me at this moment to tell, i have to dig into it, and my website needs attention too, and my children, my boss, my wife, please do not forget that one (-: so, bizzy little bee !!!

Thanks in advance

Open the Window | System messages and you should see a line saying you are "Performing a block query on 41.42.43.23.zen.spamhaus.org" if using the SpamHaus ZEN list.  If the IP address 23.43.42.41 is on the list then you should see MercuryS rejecting the mail.with (in my case) "Host blocked by SpamHaus-Zen rejecting message"

Hi,

I have this message:

Tue, 18:56:42 SpamHalter 4.4.0 started
Tue, 18:56:42 ClamWall 1.3.0.95 started
Tue, 18:56:42 GrayWall 1.1.0.117 started
Tue, 18:56:43 Program started
Tue, 19:37:14 MercuryS: reloaded transaction filtering rules
Wed, 00:00:08 SpamHalter 4.4.0 - SPAM correction address is invalid!
Wed, 00:00:08 SpamHalter 4.4.0 - NoSPAM correction address is invalid!

So, i think i'm missing some. But i have no clue at where to put the spamhouse option and the other spam blocker like you have. I'll look into that section again and hope to find it...

Thanks though Thomas.
