Using confirm reading

If you are having problems getting to sleep at night, here is some good reading on the subject.

Hello,

I have a problem with „confirm reading“. If I send emails from Pegasus Mail to Lotus Notes, Outlook Express or Thunderbird. Pegasus Mail do not get any confirmation.
I try to use the new version 4.50 PB, but it does not work.

What can I do?

Thank you for your help!

The following two Wiki entries explain more about the complications

    Return Receipt: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_receipt

   Read Receipt :  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_tracking#Read-receipts

While Return Receipt proves that the recipient email server received the message, no such confirmation is available that the user obtained the message from their server

Read Receipt is almost universally disabled as it confirms the recipient has received the message in their mail client, thereby signalling that the recipient email address is live (good news for sp@mmers worldwide).

Pegasus Mail does have the capability of returning an acknowledgement.  See menu Tools/Options/Advanced. Sending out a request to acknowledge is a little trickier and requires knowledge of what the recipient mail client knows about request formats. Then you insert the required header into your outgoing message See message Compose - Special tab.  Then fill in the custom header line

way too much trouble for most people.....

I always thought that the problem was that there is no "official" (i.e. defined in the mail protocols) means of doing the confirm reading thing, and Pegasus doesn't implement the Microsoft "standard"?

There isn't.

'Most' mailers respond to the "Disposition-Notification-To:" header but it is dependant on the receiving mail clients settings whether to respond or not.
