I have a situation where I have some "shared" pop3 mail boxes.  A number of people will check the same mailbox (info@somedomain.com).  Each person has their e-mail client set to remove the e-mail from the server after it downloads the message.
One way of dealing with inbound common mail, to f.ex. info@dom.com or support@dom.com is to install a common client such as a web mail client that is used by mulitple users.

Another way is to say that info@dom.com / support@dom.com is a mailing list that sends the mail to multiple users, and the users are instructed to respond both to the list and the sender so everyone has the same results.

I have a situation where I have some "shared" pop3 mail boxes.  A number of people will check the same mailbox (info@somedomain.com).  Each person has their e-mail client set to remove the e-mail from the server after it downloads the message.

My question is can I tell (by IP or anything) which user actually downloaded the message?

Not without using session logging and that's not recommended at all.  Personally what I do with addresses like techsupport@domain.com is make this a mailing list and make the support team members.  This way all members get the message and when one of them replies they reply both to the sender and the list so that the other members see that the message has been handled and how it was handled.  This is exactly how the winpmail-support@pmail.gen.nz is handled.  ;-)

Thanks for the response but how to you deal with the problem of wasted effort.  If everyone starts working to reply (to the email) then there is duplicated effort.

Not at all, there is no wasted effort, no one asking for help ever complains about too much help.   They will be amazed and grateful with the overwhelming response.  Just like here, you may get a half dozen replies to your queries but in most cases it's only one.  Others look at their mail see it's already replied to in a manner they find acceptable and do not respond.

This is especially true where you have your support people using PMail (or other mailer) with it's glossary with a lot of pre-approved answers to the common questions.  In addition, you would not have three separate people assigned to this task of working the account if there was not enough work for them all.  They learn to share quite quickly in my experience, some are better than others in certain areas.  Also, if this is a part time effort then they will all be doing other things from time to time and whoever is free answers the mail.
