Additionally you can allow clients from specific network addresses to relay, again from Connection control settings (can be individual addresses or a range of addresses).

Make sure you are not an open relay. Go to Configuration menu / MercuryS SMTP Server / Connection control and make sure the first two checkboxes in Relaying control are checked. Restart Mercury after making changes to make sure they are applied.
Additionally you may want to make sure not to have Configuration menu / MercuryS SMTP Server / General / Accept mail for invalid local addresses checked.

if i check both those boxes, i cant send to non-local hosts.Sure you can, you just need to check the next box as well to turn on ESMTP authorization to allow authorized connections to relay. You need to create a auth.txt file to hold the authorized usernames and passwords.
