1. Merc: What's the difference between 'Mercury Core Module|Poll
for new mail every' and 'MercuryD POP3 Client|Check every'? Where do I
tell Merc how often to poll the external server?
Mercury is polling the queue for jobs, MercuryD is polling POP3 servers for downloads.
2. I want Mercury to poll the external server regularly, but I want
the messages to appear in the Pegasus New Mail folder only when I hit
the Pegasus download button. How do I do this?
MercuryD will download and deliver the mail to a users local mail directory. In the direct mode where PMail and Mercury are using the same mail directories this means the the delivery in mercury is the same as delivery in PMail. If the PMail and Mercury mailboxes are split then you setup the POP3 downloads using the PMail POP3 setup.
3. It looks like my Pegasus filters will be a good start for
building my Mercury filters. How do I import them from Pegasus to
Mercury?
Copy the winrules.pmc to the rules.mer using an ASCII editor like Notepad.
4. How do I tell Pegasus to use Mercury for incoming mail only?
Not sure what you are asking.. If you want PMail to send via the built-in mailer instead of the Mercury queue then setup the Tools | Internet options | Sending (SMTP) to use the built-in mailer regardless of address.
Use in preference to LAN mailer for Internet mail: This option is only meaningful when you are running Pegasus Mail on a Mercury system. Checking this control tells Pegasus Mail to use its own built-in mail delivery routines instead of passing your outgoing mail to the Mercury queue for processing. If you leave this box unchecked, then Pegasus Mail will always use the Mercury queue in preference to its own SMTP delivery routines if available on the Mercury system to which you are connected. The setting of this control is ignored when you run Pegasus Mail in a non-Mercury environment.
Use for all outgoing mail, regardless of address: Usually when you enter an address such as "DAVID", which has no domain portion, Pegasus Mail regards it as a local address and attempts to deliver it to the user based on the assumption that he can be found on the machine you are using. If you are the only person who uses your computer, however, then there will be no other users on your system and this assumption will not be valid. Checking this control tells Pegasus Mail to pass all mail to the remote host for processing and not to presume that any addresses are local to your machine. You should only check this control if you are the only person who uses your machine.
