Use Mercury for Mailinglist

You did not make that clear at all. If this is true then the data you have provided is real data.

I assume you are getting the mail via POP3 from the exchange host and are trying to have this mail sent to a mailing list. If so the domain of the message must match the domain set in Configuration | mercury core | Internet name for this system. That is, if info is a mailing list and not a user then the system name must be publicdomain.com before this will be sent to maiser to check to see if there is a mailing list called info. One problem may arise though since the sender address is going to be using the domain publicdomain.com the exchange server may reject the mail do to an invalid sender domain.

It would help a lot if you were to provide your mercury.ini and lists.mer file for analysis as well.

Hi everybody,

I`m trying to set up Mercury/32 as a mailing-list "roboter" only. I have downloaded Mercury/32 Version 4.62 and have installed it on a machine but somehow I ´m not successfull setting up Mercury the way I need it.

We do have a Microsoft Exchange Server here in the company. On that I created a user named mertest with email-address mertest@domain.com Mercury now should connect to that server via POP3, get the emails sent to that exchange-account and forward them to some receipients.

Which modules do I need to do that? I have installed the MercuryC SMTP relaying client (to sent the emails to the receipients) and the MercuryD distributing POP3 client (to get the emails from the server via POP3).

I have managed to set up Mercury to connect to the Exchange-Server and to get the emails. Also in the Mercury Distributing POP3-Client I get the message "1 Message successfully retrieved" and "1 Message delivered to 'mertest@domain.com' " which is the name of the Mailing-List

But no messages are forwarded to the subscibers. In Mercury Core Process I get the message: sender address 'name@domain.com' is invalid. But the email-address name@domain.com is a moderator of the list and also is a subscriber of the list....

Any hints for me?

Your Mercury server needs a different domain name from your exchange server (in the Core / Local Domains).

Otherwise Merc treats *@domain,com as local addresses, and presumably, those users do not exist in Mercury.

Now I tried the following:

In Core -> Local Domains I had three entries:

Local host or server                         Internet name
computername                                computername
computername                                computername.localdomain.local
exchangeserver                               exchangeserver.publicdomain.com

Now I deleted the last two entries and now I get the errormessage

- 1 non-local message ignored

when I get the mails via POP3... :(

MercuryD is not finding a match for the local domain and there is not default user set it is deleted. You need to setup an alias that matches a local domain. If you are using this to get mail to a mailing list then the domain MUST match the name shown in Configuration | Mercury core | Internet name for this system so that Maiser is called to look for a matching mailing list.

Real data will allow us to check the system in both the DNS and remotely. Without these data we are just guessing. Providing real data is no risk, you do that with every message you send.

As a mailing list server it's still going to have to perform SMTP functions this does require that it be able to perform postmaster type functions for mail sent to the outside world.
