folder gone

You should also adjust  your AV settings so it at least asks before deleting your data!

What else could be gone that you haven't noticed yet?

Sir,

While using Pegasus Mail (4.41) in open mode ('check for new POP3 mails every 60 secs' - under Internet Mail Options) the program suddenly froze and afterwards one of my folders was completely empty. I checked the corresponding filename (FOL015E5.PMM) and it was no present in the c:/mail/pmail folder. How can this be??

1. Could it have moved to another place and still be recoverable? How can I find it back (I checked the disk already, to no avail)?

 2. I backed up that file weeks ago. If I put the (older) backupped file with the same name (FOL015E5.PMM) back in the MAIL folder, how can I link it to a newly made folder in my mail program (the original folder disappeared as well after closing down PMail)?

Thanks very much for a solution to this very annoying and inexplicable problem.

I would suspect your anti-virus program has found what it thinks is a virus in the file and deleted it without asking you. (AVG 8 by any chance?)

Check in your AV 'quarantine' folder.

You should put back the FOL015E5.PMM & FOL015E5.PMI from the backup.

Do it while Pmail is not running, and the folder should just show up next time you start it.

The folder with my mails seems nowhere on the HD to be found, not even in antivirus software folders. I fear it is lost and gone and don't know why. The reinsertion of the backup folder however worked. That is not 'best', yet it is 'second best'. Thanks for the interest and the useful response. H. Pelissier
