Local Users - "Killed by Filtering Rule"

Thanks.
Got it sorted..

One of the filtering rules, was moving it to another user.

Hi

Over this last couple of days some of my users outbound email is not going.
In the Mercury Core Process window I see "Job killed by filtering rule"

Under MercuryS / Connection Control the local LAN is set as:

Allow connections
Connections from this address range may relay mail
Connection from this address range are exempt from transaction filter
Autoenable session logging

All the above are enabled.

In my golbal filters, I have a rule that moves spam email to a JUNK account.
None of the 'killed' messages appear here.

Nothing is logged in System Messages.

The email is being sent from Microsoft Outlook & MS Outlook Express.

Mercury 32  v4.62
ClamAv & ClamWall
SpamHalter

Any ideas where I should be looking !! ?

Thanks

Which IP addresses are being blocked?

How have you specified the local LAN?  It may be that you have specified it incorrectly.

FWIW, the "job killed by filtering rule" just means that the message was taken out of the normal delivery process.  Any filter that does a "move" will result in the sort of message. In any case, I'm not all that sure that this sort of error message is caused by the IP address control.

Hi Thomas

In MercuryS, Connection Control I have
192.168.48.1 - 192.168.42.254 Allow
0.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.255 Refuse

I think the message is being removed due to the body of the message, either because it's html or because of words..
Any way I can check that. ??

Thanks

As do I.  The MercuryS transaction filters happen in MercuryS and they do show

mail that is being rejected in the log.  The IP address blocking is

pretty much the same.

Any way I can check that. ??

You might check the system messages to see if they say anything.  Other than that you need to go through the filters and turn off any of them that do a "Move" or "Delete" function and see what happens. The MercuryS transaction filters happen in MercuryS and they do show mail that is being rejected in the log.  The IP address blocking is pretty much the same.  This looks like a filter gone bad and then means you need to turn them off until you find the bad one.

Hi Thomas

The users IP address is not being blocked.

I can send the email Martin and he can send it to me.
Yet neither of us can send it out from Mercury.

Nothing is showing in system messages,

I'll check the filters.

If it's not stopping your internal mail, could be one of the 'Outgoing Rules'.

FWIW all my filter rules have a line to log the action to the System Messages, so I can tell what is happening.

Definately helps the debugging process when unexpected things start happening.

Thanks for the reply.

If I send from my PC to my hotmail account it works fine.
If I send from my PC to one of my hosted domains.. it works fine.

It seems to be failing on this specific email address.

I have no out going rules.

Any Ideas ??

Yes, disable all filtering rules that have an action that removes the message from normal processing (move, delete) and try again.  If it works turn on the filtering rules one at a time and test again until you find the rule that causes the problem.  Fix the rule.
