save to disk - all files, no file suffix? What am I missing?

That only happens if you select more than one message and you want the program to generate names for each.

Hello,

I'm a relatively new user of Pegasus and finding it really boring to have to manually add .txt after each file name when I save files to disk.   It seems there is only one file type you can save to - 'allfiles' and that does not automatically add any suffix to the file name.   Am I missing some vital clue here?  I've searched help and this forum and the FAQ and the techincal help files and can't find anything that answers this although I have found the issue mentioned in other posts as part of other problems, but nothing regarding whether this is all that is offered by Pegasus or if the program will add a file suffix, how you get it to do it.  Since I tend to save email to files on my hard drive; not in folders within the email program, it's getting on my nerves badly at this point.

It also appears that the only way you can save an email to hard disk is to open it - when I try saving from the new mail folder by selecting an email in the list, I'm presented with the save options but nothing gets saved...is this what's supposed to happen?  If not, how do I solve it?  I'd prefer to be able to quickly save without having to open the email.

Any assistance will be vastly appreciated.

Hi,

Did you see my post of yesterday on similar lines?

http://community.pmail.com/forums/thread/18025.aspx

I did this successfully  about 3 years ago and it has taken a while for me to remember what I did - it's all come back [;)]

About saving to disc:

You must use a high level folder, this is probably a left-over from DOS days.

For example,  you can use C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\PM Text Archives

but not  the "subfolder" shown here C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\PM Text Archives\subfolder

I think file names of no more that 8 characters are required too.

I have got over the adding of .txt by using Re-NameMaster http://www.joejoesoft.com/cms/showpage.php?cid=108

It provides an item in the Explorer context menu so is easy to use.

Hope this is of some help.

Terry.

The program doesn't offer a file suffix - you may wish to choose your own.  For instance, a graphic email may be saved with a HTM/HTML suffix to be associated with a browser.

When I save an email after selecting it from a folder list, the whole email, including headers, is saved.  These could be stored as text files, or you could store them as cnm files for later opening by Pegasus Mail.  Are you sure they aren't being saved somewhere - do you get the 'Extract messages' option window?

"you may wish to choose your own"

Pegasus Help says

"Pegasus Mail creates the unique names by removing any file extension you

supply and adding a numeric extension starting at 000, adding 1 to the

extension for each file."

This means you must add an extension after exporting.
