Odd problem after upgrading to Pegasus 4.x

Thomas ,

Thanks again.

I'm not sure I fully grasp the difference between folders and trays even after reading through the relevant Pegasus help topic. I'll play around with adding folders and/or trays and see if I can figure it all out.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "delete any tray stucture" . I'm

not sure what this means. Do you mean the order in which folders are

listed?

If you use trays to store folders then the trays will be lost and you just get a listing of the folders.  The tray structure is only in the hierarch.pm.

I'm having a very odd problem after upgrading from Pegasus 3.x to Pegasus 4.x.

When I first started Pegasus, I set the view to PREVIEW but noticed that the NEW mail folder did not appear in the list of folders. I closed the folders window and clicked on FILE->READ NEW MAIL. The folders window reopens. But since there is no NEW mail folder, I can't read my new eMail which Pegasus is able to successfully fetch form the server.

On a whim I decided to change the folders view to LIST. The NEW MAIL folder still does not appear in the list of folders. However, now when I click on FILE->READ NEW MAIL the NEW MAIL folder opens and I can read my new eMail.

Anyone have any idea of what is going and/or how to fix the problem.

I'm not sure if this is related to my problem but I have noticed that the label at the top the folder tree in the folders window which should say MY MAILBOX is blank.

Thanks.

All of this is an indication that the hierarch.pm is corrupted.  You may have a bunch of old *.PMT files so delete (move) at least MAIN.pmt and then try  the following procedure.  This has worked for several others to restore the functionality of the  message folders:

1.  Use Help | About Pegasus Mail | Info to determine your mail
    directory.  Exit Pegasus mail.

2.  Rename the file HIERARCH.PM in your HOME mail directory to
    HIERARCH.SAV.

3.  Run WinPMail.  Your HIERARCH.PM will be re-created and should
    start working correctly.

Note:  This will delete any tray structure you have created and it
will have to be recreated.  The process will not affect any
mail of mail folders you have, it only affects the display of
           the folders.

Thomas,

Many thanks. I'll try your suggestion.

I do have a clarification question which I've set out at the end of the message.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "delete any tray stucture" . I'm not sure what this means. Do you mean the order in which folders are listed?

Charles
