References field problem

[quote user="Alar.Pandis@mtk.ut.ee"]

Forgot. ASSP is working together with Mercury/32.

And against you, it would seem.

Mercury will not change the headers, only add a Recieved: line.

ASSP is my prime suspect, you should turn off ASSP and see if that solves the problem (of growing Ref header).

A valid message body must not have any single line greater than 1000 characters, so once the line exceeds this, it is no longer a valid message, which would explain why Merc can not process it correctly.

Hi! We do use Mercury/32 (4.52) as our mail-gateway. I noticed that several times replies make grow field "References" in header and at some point Mercury/32 does not send this out anymore. I see error "Network write failure during data transmission to" and e-mail is returned. I tried same e-mail against different servers, same. When I'd remove "References" field at all ... it was sent OK.
Any ideas, suggestions? I couldn't find much about this via internet. Also, couldn't find how to remove this field at all. And why it grows and why it differs for sending ...
Probably this isn't Mercury/32 problem at all, but definitely it is problem for us. Hope You can shed a light to solve this.
More thanks, Alar from Tartu Uni, Estonia.

As You see, this e-mail was sent many times and finally it stuck on Mercury/32 server with error I sent earlier. As I wrote, I'd remove "References:" and ... it got through. This is not the only one, I had more such a problems, twice ... yesterday on different senders and servers.
More thanks, Alar.

This mail looks like it has a dodgy history :)

There are mulitple Refs added by infutiknt.mtk.ut.ee & vrt-serv-1005.overall.ee.

It would seem to have been passed back and forward several times, maybe there is a problen with the routing for your domain?

Hi again and thanks!
Yes, a dodgy history! =)
Shouldn't be any routing problems because this happen at some point, till then, You see, no problem. When any routing issues appear, shouldn't it appear with earlier state already!? Well', I'm not sure, but e-mail's running smoothly, in general.
More thanks, Alar.

Maybe something about that particular mail?

The Received: headers should show the trail of servers and sometimes the RCPT TO info as well.

Is there any forwarding between external addresses involved? maybe one mailbox @vrt-serv-1005.overall.ee & another @theotherone.ee :)

You will need to provide a complete set of headers and some real info about your email environment.

Hi! And thanks.
Nothing much about infra. I try to send a e-mail out from my computer, using Outlook 2003! Via Mercury/32 4.52 (I'd use in between also IMail from Ipswitch, but seems to me, it same happen at end). I see that on some reason in references section appear in middle <tab> ... maybe this? This <tab> character didn't appear in header I sent, I'll attach. I can't understand where this <tab> comes from.

I see that on some reason in references section appear in middle <tab> ... maybe this? This <tab> character didn't appear in header I sent, I'll attach. I can't understand where this <tab> comes from. http://infutik.mtk.ut.ee/~alar.sysop/varia/MO0004B7.QDF More thanks, Alar.

I tried to see what RFC 2822 has to say about the References header. As far as I can see it's OK to have any number of message references listed in it, but I'm not sure that comma is allowed between references, and each line should not exceed 998 characters. Header folding is OK, though.
